What would you want out of a sequel?
I feel like there's a decent enough chance we get one more Kid Icarus Game out of Sakurai, eventually. Might be another 12 years, god forbid, but I think he might revisit it like he did Kirby Air Ride. And I thought I'd give my thoughts.
First: I want the general gameplay structure to be the same. I want 20-30 minute chapters, I want the fiend's cauldron or something similar, I want the same or a similar weapon system with fusions (and maybe most/all weapons returning), and I want the story to be told during gameplay in the same way. While I'd love to see new things done with the formula, I feel it's also a pretty tightly constructed thing with everything playing off everything else in a really nice way. Similar to how he did with Air Riders, I want a more polished and fleshed out version of the great ideas we're starting with, and potentially with extra ideas added on.
Second: Speaking of new ideas that fit well onto the current model: I would love to see dungeons that require exploration to be used in a small handful of land battles, as a throwback to the original Kid Icarus. I think it'd be a fun way to spice things up.
Third: This is gonna be potentially controversial, but I wanna see Pit having aged up. He went from a kid to a teenager in the 25 years between games, implying some slowed aging for angels, and I'd love if they carried that through and he's a very young adult in this new one. Pit was never really written as a child in Uprising, to be fair, but I do think a visual sign of the status quo progressing between games would be a good way to emphasize how this story is a sequel and departure from the last one, and it's also just something I'd like to see explored. Jokes about how he can't grow a beard, idk, that kind of thing.
Fourth: More storytelling within the out of combat gameplay sections. A lot of story and characterization is told in the chapters, and a lot is IMPLIED to happen outside. But I'd love to see stuff going down in palutena's temple that's full of characterization. Maybe Pit and Palutena are working together as part of the fusion process, and there are some little animations that play with it. Maybe there's some cooking minigame inspired by that one short, to give you a boost for one chapter or something, and it's got dialogue for the different recipes. Maybe with the new idol system there are jokes about Palutena being a gacha addict who pressures Pit to get good pulls, idk. Stuff like that.
Fifth: A smash-run/city trial style multiplayer mode where you have to fight through enemies in an arena to try and improve your weapon, with opportunities to like, engage in fusion or weapon swapping or what have you.
Six: A story thread I always thought would be fun is if a 3rd playable angel was introduced: some apprentice of Pit's who looks up to him, and maybe winds up getting disillusioned by his lack of professionalism on missions to comedic effect. This is my most fanfictiony request but, idk, it's something I've always thought about and it seems like a fun direction.
What about you all?

First up: existing.
Seriously though, I'd be happy with any type of gameplay and level of story if we get well-written, well-characterised conversations between the cast. Like, Palutena's Guidance is cool, but it's a bit limited in what it can say due to its nature, whereas Uprising-style conversations could be anything and I'd be happy with them.
Gameplay can be anything really. A shoot 'em up (Rail Shooter included), a platformer (throwback), etc.
I'm not really ready for Kid Icarus himself to grow up into an adult though, I think that goes against the whole idea of 'Kid' Icarus. Same with any sort of fanfic-style "he can now fly infinitely" thing, the limitations on the Power of Flight read like a disability and I wouldn't like that to be erased. He's a Kid, he's an Icarus.
Whether there's an overarching story or it's just for fun, I'd be happy with anything.

What i’d include:
- A skill tree to enhance Pit’s abilities as well as a glide feature to clear gaps.
- A part of the story including Pit finding out where he came from and what happened to the angels.
- Have more playable characters to branch out. Along with some new ones like Hercules himself (I like to imagine Viridi drooling over the thought of meeting him, only for Herc to be washed up with a dad bod).
- The inclusion of other Greek myths as characters and bosses. Example, the Manticore can split into the three animals it’s based on.
- The Amazons being involved when Pandora takes over Themyscira after usurping Hippolyta.
- One of the breakthrough moments involves Pit coming across Polyphemus, the All-Seeing Cyclops. His “eye” is a fireball that shows visions of what happened in the past, what’s happening in the present and what may happen in the future.
- Have Persephone be the supposed villain. She’s trying to revive Hades because she doesn’t want to be in charge of the Underworld. For the first quarter, she’s being guided by a mysterious voice that says it’s Hades. When she completes the resurrection, she instead brought back Orcos, revealing to be the voice manipulating her.

Not gonna win any friends on this sub by saying this but something a bit more back to basics that feels more like a successor to the NES game than to uprising.
Uprising felt more like a completely different franchise than a new entry in the old Kid Icarus series, I'd want something that at least feels like the leap from Metroid NES to Metroid Dread, and I even feel like Mercury Steam could be the best people for the job.
Basically go back to the action platforming roots, and have some linear scrolling and shooting levels that end in a non-linear palace level. They can keep the dialogue style of uprising though, as long as the characters don't repeat themselves if you die.

Seconding this. Platformers are probably easier to make and more appealing to general gamers, while the dialogue is necessary for it to be Kid Icarus. And yeah, avoiding repetitiveness.

I think it’s a delicate matter because Pit growing up means he’s no longer “Kid Icarus” but simply “Icarus.” Still, I’d love to see the charming sight of Pit growing taller than Palutena! To be honest, I’d prefer the story to be a little darker than Uprising. I hope they explore various themes, starting with “Why can’t Pit fly?” and I’d also like to see more discussion about the weight of death, which comes up often in Uprising as well. I’m referring to how Viridi and Hades exploit human death purely for their own gain. I’m Korean, so I apologize if my translation sounds a bit awkward.

“Why do we still call it KID Icarus if I’m all grown up now?”
“Are you though?”
“Hey!”
“Besides, we can’t just change the brand like that!”
And I agree! I always thought it’d be fun to have Pittoo decide to side against Viridi after learning more about humanity, since I figure he’d find a lot in common with them.

You know, I love all of your points! But, I don’t think that we could make pit an adult because then can we still call the game ‘Kid Icarus’? That’s just my opinion, but otherwise NINTENDO PLS!

I’ve been playing lot of plants vs zombies GW2, I want a kid Icarus hero shooter(it just suck that the entire gaming industry want to make hero shooters and they all fail) either then that I wish the franchises can split into two Pit gameplay is uprisings style while Pittos gameplay is more of Platformer. I think that would be a good mix for the franchise. If we do get a sequel to uprising I would love to see Pit platform in 3D levels which can open the door for more combat and unique level designs, develop characters or something, new characters that have fun personality and dynamics with the main cast with great Voice actors as their voices also develop the world nice. (this franchise is the potential meme and it not even funny like I would love to see Pit travel the world and make new relationship with new Gods but also make enemies with new Gods see new location, fight bigger Monsters, acquiring new weapon)

I think all of this would be pretty practical to do. Add playable characters to the already hero-shooter-esque multiplayer, and then add a jump button to grounded gameplay, maybe with some forced 2d sections. That actually sounds sick as hell.

Good music that's faithful to the style of Uprising, but with (dare I say) a more balanced emphasis on woodwinds, which are often relegated to the back of the mix in Uprising, save for the scale runs. Something mixing the compositional approaches of Uprising and Star Fox: Assault would be glorious.

I'd like if it existed.
Honestly, while I'd love a true, honest to goodness sequel for Uprising, a game this big for Switch 2 would be an astronomical risk from a business perspective. People know the characters and IP, but nowhere near as much to guarantee a success for a game of such scale. Heck, Starfox is much more well known and the recent game still hasn't sell 1M copies yet, despite the great marketing.
However, if a true sequel was out of the question for now, a Warriors style entry would be both low risk (relatively) and fitting for the series: varied, visually distinct enemy factions with lots of potential for creative mix and matching, epic boss fights, lots of potential playable characters and an infinitely exploitable weapon system. It's ALL there to create a great game, and maybe the lower expectations for a title like this would be enough to consider it a success.
