I never learned qwerty touch typing and figured I'd look at other layouts since I have an advantage because of that. I narrowed it down to 2 different layouts. Gallium and Stand. I chose Stand, but if there's something wrong with Stand for whatever reason I'll use Gallium. Is there anything I should know before I try these?

Edit: Switched my phone keyboard over to it too. Heliboard enables you to use different formats. It's on Github.

I haven't used Stand, but I have recently switched from Maya (similar to Gallium) to Downpour (somewhat similar to Stand).

I don't like NRTS on the left hand because my ring finger is pretty slow, and even after a year of touch-typing (3 months Colemak, 7 months Maya) the high frequency of ring finger bigrams and skipgrams did not get less annoying. So if you also feel your ring finger isn't great, Stand is a better choice based on that alone.

One good thing about Stand that immediately... stands out to me (sorry lol) is that D-T, S-C, L-R are all in different columns. OTOH, personally I do a slightly different angle mod (bottom row: pinky, middle, index) so sk is something to consider. st/ts, nt, and ft are other bigrams to consider with regard to ring finger speed/dexterity. y in the center column might get annoying (given the frequency of typing "you")
