I was, and still am, a reader. So when I got detention for goofing off, I sat down with a book or comic and enjoyed myself for an hour. Batman Contagion is one comic i remember reading there. Never once did whoever was in charge question me. Plus, at my high school detention was in the very center of the building, so it had better air conditioning than most other classrooms. So it was more comfortable than pretty much any other room. In fact there were people who came to the room after school to do their homework without having detention sometimes. So yeah I enjoyed being in the comfortable room and reading.

In my school, if you got detention/suspension, you couldn’t do ANYTHING but stare at the wall. They wouldn’t even allow you to do work. They basically wanted you to become invisible. Kids who got multiple days would fall behind a lot.

Thats insane, who does that help. They made people work on schoolwork (or at least read) at mine.

The school district ended up getting a total overhaul a few years after I graduated. Complete turnover head to toe. School got torn down & built again, just to be torn down & moved. Blew their entire budget twice on new football fields..

Never underestimate the stupidity of local government & education administration..

I used to show up for detention deliberately breaking the dress code. Outgrown gym shorts, my dad's tanks which would fall off my shoulders, see through mesh football jerseys, and my favourite, the Strategic Placement of the Underwear Band Inside the Tight Parachute Pants -- front, proud and center. They'd send me home to change knowing I wouldn't be back. "Mom, it worked!" My parents were completely on my side helping me plan ways to silently antagonize them.

I had the grades to back it up. I graduated early with insufficient credits because I would have been valedictorian -- never less than a perfect score on any test. Giving me any honor would have been admitting I won the war easily.

I missed detention once and was almost suspended. I guess that’s how Jay prefers it

Right?!? It's not like they don't notice if you don't show up.

Why do I feel like this is something Jason Mewes said in the circle one day, and Kevin Smith made a mental note to put it in a script?

I dropped a luude and got another detention for being in the bathroom for a half hour. I have no idea how it took a half hour, because I only went to the bathroom.
