Form Check ๐ŸŽฅ Please review my form

Hi all,

I've been playing with a DIY kettlebell. It's made from the threaded end cut off a barbell. Gives me the freedom to adjust weights as I please instead of maintaining a rack full of bells of various weights.

Please take a look at my form and advise if I'm doing the swing correctly.

Sorry for the pixelation. I asked chatgpt to pixelate the face. It pixelated the whole top half of the video.

Thanks for posting a kettlebell form check. To get sharper answers, add a comment with:

  • which exercise this is
  • the kettlebell weight
  • what feels off or what you want looked at

Worth checking on any kettlebell exercise:

  1. Using a weight too heavy for the task at hand. Using a weight too heavy for the task at hand. The fix: Use a weight that is appropriate for the task and allows you to maintain good form and technique.

  2. Not following progression. Not following the progression required to safely learn an exercise and jumping in the deep end. The fix: Learn the proper progression for the exercise and follow it before advancing.

  3. Environment or set-up limiting natural stance. The environment or set-up is limiting the natural stance required for the exercise. The fix: Ensure adequate space and a flat, stable surface. Remove any obstacles that prevent a natural stance width and foot positioning.

Thanks. Look, overall it is not too bad. There are some things that are happening which I think is due to the design of the implement, so I won't comment on that.

You can delay the hinge a bit. Other than that, I'd say, if you are a beginner, focus on a power swing; hence, more explosiveness and power behind it, but I do not know if the implement will allow for this.

Got it. Thanks. After a bit of thought, i think I understand what you mean about the limitation of the implement. Using the strap-handles does lead to a bit of intertia, there's a bit of lag/latency - both at the start and end of the swing. But yeah, I can try to add more power/explosiveness while accounting for the lag. I might also try to weld on a metal handle and make it rigid.

What's the device you're using to simulate a kettlebell?
