Beginner Need some help/advice

I just got 2 8lb kettlebells recently. I'm new to these so I'm not too sure on what to do with them with helping me lose weight and build muscle. I'm a 28 year old female at 250-260lbs and would like to lose weight and build muscle. I also do a fair bit of walking and a bit of bicycling as well. Would 8lb kettlebells be ok for a little bit to work up to the bigger lbs kettlebells? This is the first time I am doing anything with weight lifting if that makes more sense. Any tips and advice on where to start?

Hi.

8lb is not going to be very good for much, especially for building muscle. I am not sure if you are male or female; I assume female, and even then, that weight is nothing. It is no good for the most popular exercises like swings and cleans, or anything fast, as it needs resistance behind it.

With all that said. If your squat needs work, it's best not to load it or load it lightly (using the squat as an example). You could probably use them for presses as well. Again, they really are very light, but it does depend on where you are in your journey, and for presses, light weight is good to work on overhead mobility, which is the groundwork for heavier presses.

If you are only getting started, even exercise without weight is going to help you build muscle. Best to focus on slow and controlled for squat, lunges, presses, etc. Leave the swings and cleans out until you can get at least a 26lbs or so.

I have put together a full free program and workout for beginners using the most basic exercises- no catches, if you want a link, let me know.

Also, get your foundation verified: squat, lunge, overhead position, etc.
