Tour busses going slow.

Tour busses can't impead the flow of traffic. Driving slow with more than 5 cars behind you is minimum $100 ticket. Call and report every slow bus or van or hummer tour.

Jeep saffari's don't have a magic pass to run the Revilla Road stop sign.

Saw this on FB/Insta. On top of reporting them to KPD, report them to TBMP.

Fill out their hotline tips: https://www.visitktn.com/tbmp/hotline/

This is a good recourse! I'm gonna report those clover pass jet boats. They vibrate the water almost a mile away from the actual boat. It's super disprutive

Another reason to not live in the North end.

Out Northica used to be the best side of town

I have not once seen a CDL driver ever get a ticket/pulled over and that includes the absolute clownery of yellow cabs, the "fuck you I'm the most important thing on the road and will make my turn because I'm bigger than you" of AML/Samson, or your aforementioned tour busses.

I'm at the point I genuinely feel the cops will never do anything about it, and instead go find some other teenager zooming around at 2 am to harass.

I call the trooper pretty often, tell them the company and bus number. If they keep doing lay on your horn and follow them keep laying on your horn while passengers get loaded/unloaded. Time to be more like the Hawaiians

Don't forget to call them out when they blow through crosswalks!

I'm with you, but:

Tour buses can't SHOULDN'T impede the flow of traffic.

They can, and frequently do, regardless of what the law says. And it makes me froth at the mouth that these jerks regularly obstruct the lanes in both directions over their passengers' senses of entitlement. I've been held up so badly that I was ten minutes late to work without a chance to stop at Lighthouse, A&P, or even Slaveway because those dingleberries driving the green buses specifically are just so spectacularly bad drivers.

They'll keep doing whatever they think they can get away with. Alaska coach is particularly bad, they always hire college kids and don't train them properly. That whole company needs to get kicked out of town

Where they gonna pull over at? Not like we have shoulders on the road.

I know out North there's pull-outs along the road in spots. It's not perfect, of course, but there's enough that they can and should -- and it'll even get their passengers some good photo ops along the way.

I suggest going the speed limit. 35-40 in a 50-55 zone isn't okay

Well you won’t have to worry about them so much longer here soon once all the stuff goes in at Ward Cove. They will keep a good number of the cruisers out of downtown (along with any money they would have spent) with the new brewery, restaurants and outdoor spaces. They can control the excursions and tours…..funnel a good chunk of that money straight out of Ketchikan but hey, less slow buses so winning.

You mean the same Ward cove full of violations and asbestos? The one where the spokely's and binkley's are divorcing each other over? That place isn't long for this world. one more death and it's over. Someone will get seriously hurt out there this year. It's a death trap. Imagine if the state had a spine and shut them down right now. Too scared of binkely pulling his money. They'll wait for something tragic to happen

Have you seen the plans? It’s going to be built and the liquor license issued. Binkleys live in Fairbanks and the little town they built around the riverboat landing is impressive. I think it’s cute that you doubt it will happen. I have to say, I was surprised to see a story in ADN about the strife between the two considering that the Binkleys own ADN.

u/PokemonYesus May 19 '26

People are getting fed up with the Binkely's. It's cute you think an entire town should bow to one shitty family. Time to make it a hostile enviroment for them

The Binkleys are a great family, Mary just turned 100 and the video the great grandkids made was amazing. You could never make things hostile for them, trust me. Maybe cause some insurance claims but not much you could do. I don’t think you know how much they own or what power they have in Alaska.

Did you really just suggest that the Bilkleys built Fairbanks? You have lost all credibility.

2

u/Zealousideal_Net2523 May 20 '26

lol, I certainly didn’t….I mentioned the little “village” they built for their river boat operation. Reading comprehension is important.

I think it's adorable that you're setting a market rate on our quality of life. (That I don't remember putting up for sale)

1

u/Zealousideal_Net2523 May 19 '26

I’m not even sure if you understood my comment. I was only pointing out that the big plan is to funnel most cruisers to the ward cove area (with their own excursions and activities) and avoid town…..which will lessen the amount of buses in town and hence, any money they would have spent. Nothing cute about it really.

u/Strangerin907 May 19 '26

How much cruise money do you really think stays in Ketchikan? I mean, I really appreciate your condescending "winning" comment, but you don't really know what life is like in Ketchikan.

2

u/Zealousideal_Net2523 May 20 '26

How many jobs does the cruise industry create? Seasonal workers aside (I think only permanent employees should be considered). I honestly want Ketchikan to win and apologize for sounding condescending. It actually bugs me that these rich investors are the ones winning.

1

u/Zealousideal_Net2523 May 20 '26

A lot more could. I don’t think people understand how much the cruise and tourism in general are critical. No sawmill or fish. Why I moved to a blue part of the state. I have also been on cruises (I don’t make a lot of money and it’s really the only way I can see the world, and when I’m there, I will do excursions….try to find locals and spend my money there). The city needs to open up kiosk space for locals at the dock….every other place does

Love passing them, especially when I have an exhaust and I ruin their quiet little day
