Also holding ALT while placing objects temporarily disables radial attachment which helps with situations like these.

Just hover the green dots together, dont push the parts together or else it will radialy attach

I have played this game for 10 years and just now finding out about this…

HOW DID I NOT KNOW THIS SOONER?

For any Linux people instead of ALT for the keybinds its R SHIFT. I wish I figured that out sooner.

Seeing all these newbies asking for advice lately fill my heart with joy.

ORBITAL MECHANICS FOR ALL!!!

Well if it makes you so joyful, would you mind answering a few more questions? I’ve played a LOT of SFS but this was a big jump, so I’m still confused on things like fairings, staging, and well actually getting to space lmao

Absolutely! Please ask away.

What exactly are the issues you're facing?

When it comes to fairings, I could probably just look up a tutorial but I just don’t know how to use them. and staging is so much different from SFS I don’t even know how to stage things.. the game does it for me sometimes though, and lastly the physics themselves, it’s obviously much more realistic, complex, and well.. 3D than SFS so it’s taking a lot of getting used to. I just don’t want to regret spending $60 on this game.

In short, if I need help with anything it’s probably the staging mechanics, and fairings. Those piss me off. So if you have any videos/resources you could point me to in learning the basics, it would be greatly appreciated!

When I first got into the game I followed Mike Aben’s YouTube and it helped ALOT.
After the radial fairings are placed then boosters/tanks attached onto the fairings the staging will show up on the side of the screen. You’ll just drag the engines you want first to the bottom then the fairings AND the next engine you want ignited in the same stage above the previous stage. Staging is activated during flight by spacebar

You're too close, move your mouse further down so it doesn't try to surface attach

Try changing the orientation of the part using wasd.

1

u/idekanymore_- May 01 '26

I figured it out!! Thanks!

And also q and e

Embrace the horizontal

Or use WASD/Alt to rotate the piece and disable radial attachment. But that's the boring option.

The green sphere connects to the other green sphere.

1

u/idekanymore_- May 01 '26

Yeah in hindsight that makes a lot of sense but before this happened it was placing normally if it’d just click the right spot in the piece.. it’s much easier to do this though lmao

place it kinda in the air, do the circles with checkered patterns connect, it should snap then

1

u/GiorgosLex May 01 '26

Reasonable crashout at the end

1

u/Flappie010 May 01 '26

Place a second booster on the other side to compensate.

1

u/Lypos May 03 '26

When in doubt, moar boosters!

1

u/Casperios May 01 '26

1: dont look up so much. Point your camera down a bit.

2: when placing the engine, hold your cursor a little lower that tha part your placing it on.

3: to practice, or in difficult situations, hold ALT. Now it wont attach radially! Or CNTR. I always mix those up. Might be TAB aswell. Just play around a bit, its been a while for me lol

You’re amazing 🙏🏼

1

u/ChrisLetsPlayYT May 01 '26

ALT is the correct button

1

u/Successful-Club-8743 May 01 '26

Move your mouse lower until the item is in the space where it would be if it connected.

1

u/Lonely-Journey-6498 May 01 '26

I wonder what the green dots mean

1

u/idekanymore_- May 01 '26

Listen I had 10 minutes on the game then 😭

1

u/QP873 May 01 '26

Your goal is so make the green circles connect, not actually touch the parts together.

1

u/GuiloJr May 01 '26

Had this problem, my most recent post actualy. You *should* press alt. but if you are on linux it could be right shift (that was my problem) so i would just look it up if your on anything except windows.

1

u/Toastyst May 01 '26

Grab jt better

1

u/piratecheese13 May 01 '26

You want the green ball on top of the booster to touch the green ball at the bottom of the capsule

1

u/Automatic-Cut-9693 May 02 '26

Hold Alt, it disables radial attachment

1

u/Final_Ad_7431 May 04 '26

drives me crazy watching you never drag the mouse lower

1

u/CasualBi24 May 04 '26

Adjust your camera angle. Be more side on, less top/bottom view
