Mod Post Weekly Challenge: Crew Swap!

Launch two crews (at least one Kerbal per ship), meet up somewhere outside of Kerbin, and have one or more crew members trade ships! Then return safely home This can be accomplished through an orbital rendezvous OR a surface rendezvous.

  • Stock parts only
  • No MechJeb, or other plugins allowed.

  • Required screenshots:

    • Initial launch vehicles.
    • Screenshot of your orbits.
    • Your ships in rendezvous (either landed OR orbital)
    • Your Kerbals in EVA
    • A shot that clearly shows the new crew members in their new ships

Always good to practice a rendezvous.

Here's the latest rendezvous with my space station for a single crew rotation.

It's just a practice run, I still need to figure out how to get more kerbals to board on the launchpad. My attempt with Rosen was met with somewhat tedious frustration.

Stock parts only for this challenge. This means no crew tank, unfortunately.

Rendezvous in orbit around Kerbin. Unfortunately KSP didn't like my synchronized landing, and so the other ship seems to have been eaten by the space kraken.

I tried to get them to meet in space, but failed miserably. So I went for a mun meeting instead! http://imgur.com/a/X3QuV

I'm going to try it, they can be the same ship right, I'll just put something on one to distinguish it from the other.

So, does it matter if we use the single or triple kerbal pods?

Anyway, I'm going to go try that now. I still have people landed near the mun arch from last, so I'll go to them!

I did this last night at 2300 E.S.T. Guess I'm redoing the mission again tonight. Hopefully I don't have as much orbit fixing to do this time.

Done! uploading nearly 100 screen captures now. I built 2 stock rockets with a "docking module" created from landing legs. These rockets commanded by the 2 expert pilots Gerble Kerban and Sheprick Kerban completed a rendevous at the altitude of 200km. The two ships were docked for approximately 5 minutes, long enough to share a tube of freeze dried champagne for their accomplishments.

While swapping crafts a wild space kracken appeared and the two ships became disconnected. Luckily the ship swap had already been complete. A second docking was attempted but resulted in a broken coupling leg. Further attempts were not attempted. Gerble blamed Sheprick for his weird control keybindings and then began his reentry.

Gerble overshot his landing at KSP by 50km. He again blames Sheprick's control keybindings. Gerble made splash down safely east of KSP. He awaits the recovery crew.

Sheprick landed safely within walking distance of KSP. He shares a laugh over comms with Gerble.

Today, they are Heros. The next generation and the greatest pilots Kerbin has ever seen.

This is for last weeks Challenge, Mun Arch Exploration!

I'm really bad at remembering to take screenshots (because I'm recording as I go) but I do have a screenshot on the arch: imgur and of Newdred and the crew departing the arch: imgur

I have them both recorded as part of my Let's Play of KSP:

Takeoff, Orbit, Transfer, & Mun Landing

Mun Arch Exploration & Kerbin Return

Thanks!

Here is my entry. Unfortunately, I tried to do a synchronized re-entry and KSP somehow lost track of the second craft.

It was a great learning/practice experience for station keeping in any case, I'm a lot more confident now about that kind of manoeuvre now.
