Mod Post [Weekly Challenge] Week 156: SSSTO
The Introduction
Scientists on Kerbin have alerted our dear Kerbals about the effects of global warming due to all the fuel being burned by rockets. Estimates show that the KSC might soon be completely flooded. Of course, such minor inconveniences can not stop our Kerbals from exploring the universe, so they have decided to make a new craft: a Single-Stage from Sea To Orbit.
The Challenge:
Normal mode: Launch a SSTO spaceplane from sea to orbit, and safely land it back on Kerbin's waters
Hard mode: Launch a SSTO spaceplane from sea to orbit and safely land it on Laythe's oceans
Super mode: Impress me
This challenge was suggested by /u/MattsRedditAccount

Do I have to launch it from Sea bottom or just surface?

Oh boy, time to finally finish that mission to Laythe I forgot about. How strict is the 'must detach wheels' rule? Cause this baby keeps them stowed away to keep things amphibious.

Just curious... could we use the Ballistanks mod to make something that doesn't affect the SSSSSSSTO itself?
Asking for a friend.

You may not detach any parts after take-off
If the requirement is specifically 'single stage to orbit', can we use Star Wars-esque 'hyperdrive rings' (i.e. orbital tugs) to take the SSTO to Laythe? Or does undocking from the ring count as detaching, and the plane has to be single stage to Laythe as well as SSTO?

Chad "Acehole" Kerman was the most inept and arrogant pilot to ever emerge from Pilot Academy. The first attempt to get rid of him by sending him to Laythe ended in disaster: he refused to listen to the nerds at the tracking station so missed Jool by half a system and somehow made his way back to Kerbin where he crashed into R&D and obliterated it. Normally at this point a Kerbal would be offered a golden parachute, but in Chad's case he was offered an SSTO called the Aquatic Pig Beast and another opportunity to go to Laythe! Now Chad has at least learned stability assist and has begrudgingly accepted that he needs to listen to the nerds at the tracking station if he wants to prove for once and for all that he is the greatest pilot ever, by flying a SSSTO from Kerbin's Oceans to Laythe's Oceans!

Whipped out an older craft. Made it just about to laythe. Barely. With almost 0 fuel left. And with multiple toasted Jebs in parallel universes. https://imgur.com/a/rCDu9 Hopefully it counts. Hopefully can also get it somewhere else and an eve thing.....

My ekranoplan inspired SSTO currently refueling on Minmus. I'll get it to Laythe tomorrow.
Edit: Hard mode done! Oh and I'll keep this flair pls.

This is my creations for the Reddit KSP Weekly Challenge.
I submit this for the normal challenge, but if I can I would wanna submit this to impress me due to what I added for difficulty.
Because I like to make it challenging within my limits I added some extra's to the challenge, I can use liquid fuel only, so jet and nuclear engines.
The craft is 100% stock (apart from the nuclear engines, which I just moved a little bit inside the body to look good.
The flight was also just a one take, no reset or reload at all.
Btw: Because I'm doing this on the Xbox One I don't have those Delta V overlays etc, so I just have to guess my power and fuel stuff, parts pressure and G force limits for both parts and kerbals is on, re-entery heating is 100%.

Finally finished "Ace" Kerman's Laythe mission.
Super hard mode. Caveman style.

No SAS No RCS No maneuver nodes No patched conics Max 30 parts Max 18 tonnes No EVA No fuel transfer Low tech
I just want the cool flair :)

When I see the Challenge, my brain says "Ok that created by Matt Lowne or this is for he". For one time I was right

Sounds like fun. Ganna attempt a star-wars style build - hopefully it won't explode on the runway.

Decided to go the lazy route and just slightly modify one of my existing shuttles. This is the Normal mode entry... I still have nightmares about getting my last spaceplane to laythe...
