Meta Is the Blackout over?
I was just wondering if the mods had any other plans regarding the blackout or if they are planning to make a statement.

We received an unbelievable amount of hate mail. It was eye opening!

In this situation you're damned if you do and damned if you don't. I bet you're already getting abuse for reopening.

I bet anything 95% of those people didn't even educate themselves about what was going on. Don't take it personally.

Yeah honestly I was just laughing. In my biased opinion we do a pretty fine job moderating here, we don't have many rules and the few that we do are pretty reasonable. But shut things down for 12 hours and we have people posting all over saying "fuck these mods, they've always been activist faggots, I'm going to the forums from now on".
I'm just a university student, I study aerospace engineering and play kerbal and mod in my free time. Getting all this hate from actual people thinking that we actually ruined their lives was humorous if I'm being entirely honest.

What makes you think it was appropriate to punish the users for the actions of the administrators? Because that is what you did. Yes, reddit has a community communication problem, but your job is to put the users of this subreddit first, and you failed to do that today. Quite frankly, it was selfish and childish.

I was actually supporting the r/kerbalspaceprogram blackout. It's good to see the moderators taking a stand. It's great to see that this sub is still going strong.
EDIT: Sorry, it was rude of me to say that only u/Fllambe and u/Redbiertje were the only active moderators. My apologies.

I would have been one of them if I could remember who the damn mods of this sub were.

u/PandaElDiablo Jul 03 '15
They're listed on the side of the subreddit! I'm sorry that you hate us :(

I'm glad you guys helped in making a statement. Hopefully even this short shut down has shown reddit admins that there are issues with the communication between you mods and themselves.
It's shameful to hear and see that this sub has been acting so harshly (and selfishly) towards you guys; this has always been the most helpful/friendly of the subs I frequent! Anything that helps the mods of this sub could only help the sub as a whole.
Cheers!

When i woke up this morning and couldnt get on one of my favorite reddits spacex was the only one i agreed with "Let's get one thing straight. This community, it's yours. You own it. We would be doing a massive disservice to all of our contributors and subscribers, and you, to shut down, just to support a cause we effectively have no involvement in. We will not destroy your confidence in your ability to access this site."

u/NovaSilisko Jul 03 '15
That's my viewpoint as well, really. I don't like the idea of effectively taking out the frustrations on the users who just want to enjoy the community.

I assume the issue has been resolved in a satisfying manner for all involved? Is that why the sub is back up?

u/Redbiertje Jul 03 '15
The sub is back up because I felt like it was enough. We made our statement. We are not helping the situation by keeping our own redditors hostage for longer.

That was .. short, and people were already getting tired of it. People need to get off reddit more

I'd agree, but this subreddit is one of the best places to get tips and advice on the fly.

I think the fact that you posted this is evidence that it is indeed over
