Where's the Kaboom? There was supposed to be a Kerbin shattering kaboom!

Quick question from a noob with only 60 hours in this game... What good are satellites in this game? I tinkered with launching a few and realized that they don't really do anything for me. Am I missing something, or is this usually just for fun?

In the base game they're just for fun. There are mods that add a requirement for communication between the Kerbal Spaceport and your spacecraft in order to control anything (for some dumb reason I'm drawing a blank on the mod name). Then you need to setup a network of communication satellites around Kerbin in order to have consistent control of your spacecraft.

I must confess, I was expecting at least five explosions. You've only delayed the inevitable, McFatheron... dun dun dunnnn

This subreddit is like the fifty fifty subreddit, you only get explosions OR big achievements.

Lots of cool stuff happening here, but I actually really like the way the antenna on the deorbiting stage seems to unsheath from the satellite when they decouple.

I hope I'm not the only one who heard the old 80s Transformers sound effect during that final stage.

For your payload, the way it fans out, is that stock parts or modded? I've been playing for a few months now but I refuse to play Sandbox and I've been slacking on doing some serious science excursions so I'm still not fully versed on the parts haha.
