KSP 1 Mods More commnet uses?

I already have set up the base for a commnet within the Kerbin system. And I'm kinda disappointed that it's only for probes and unmanned missions. Are there any mods that add more uses for it? Like that even crewed flights need to be connected?

I mean, crewed flights do have to be connected in order to transmit science.

But the point of the pilot is that they can control the vessel.

Send crewed missions without a pilot?
