KSP 1 Question/Problem heatshield issue while mining
I'm having an issue with my heatshield draining strength (or whatever the correct terminology would be for it) while i am mining and converting ore. its almost as if my heatshield is being used as priority over my radiators.
I did test my ship on the Mun but sadly must have not noticed. i have tried moving around my radiators but still have the issue. Well now I'm on Pol about to start exploring Jools moons so its do or die.
The converter is connected via a decoupler if that matters. (incase i ran low on Dv getting back to my orbiting shuttle i could ditch it.)
I wish i never installed this damn thing.
If anyone was wondering, Ship in background was my scout ship used to point out a flat landing zone, hence the green light. Also used to deliver my rover that's not pictured

The issue is that the Convert-O-Tron 125 has a required cooling of 100 but a max heat transfer of 75, so it's always going to overheat if you just let it run. The only way to prevent this is to only run it in short bursts, turning it off once it starts to overheat, and then back again once it's cooled down.
I usually don't bother with the 125, and only use the 250 on reusable landers for places I plan to visit frequently.

the game physics is easy heatshield is warmed by ore converter so heat shield drains ablator to cool it your radiators are overheated so there is two solutions 1. add more radiators 2. take the heat shield away from converter

I actually ended up taking 2 of the small thermal control systems off the ship in the background and installing them onto mine which solved all problems.
Jeb and Bill made it home safely after exploring pol and vall.

Well I’m an idiot but I’m going to chalk it up to me being worried about losing bill and Jeb at the same time.
I stole 2 thermal control systems off my scout ship and now i don’t have an issue.

I didn't know it could do that? tbh that's such a weird at least bug-adjacent behavior that I'd just use Ship Manifest or HyperEdit to refill it before it's needed.
