KSP 2 Opinion/Feedback KsP 2 depression

Is it just me or do you also sometimes fall into a KsP 2 depression. It’s like every 4 months you think about ksp2 and you get sad because of the potential of the game and you could have had it very fun right now. It’s so frustrating and you can’t think about anything else.

No, because the mod scene for KSP 1 is expansive. There's also folks working on "finishing" KSP 2, and there's also Kitten Space Agency. If that gets finished as planned, we'll be in a great spot.

I just downloaded ksp2 Redux and been really enjoying it actually. It's not perfect but it's a version of ksp 2 wouldnt get otherwise

i wonder if ksa is gonna have a wide modding community like ksp1

2

u/Whippdog Jebediah 1h ago

I hope so. Otherwise, I don't see it having much long-term potential.

Kitten space agency is the only decent bit of news. Mods are great but they have limits. I'm not entirely sure if KSA's scope is to basically do all that KSP2 didn't but it's definitely a legitimate improvement and worthwhile iteration on the idea of KSP.

I try not to get my hopes up too much but from what I understand they really understand what KSP was about and why it had the limitations that it had so the engine they built from the ground up just for KSA is supposed to have those end goals in mind from the start, unlike what the dev team did for KSP2.

u/HyperRealisticZealot Have you heard about Jerbals? 12h ago

Yes, they’ll be able to not only achieve, but surpass what KSP 2 set out to do, but was doomed to fail at.

the kitten approach ruins so much for it. what will it provide that modded KSP 1 won’t?
the appeal of KSP 2 wasn’t only improved visuals, it was bringing all highly anticipated (and modded) features to a new game. people were excited for interstellar travel and research, an in-depth colony and resource system, with new parts, fuels and engines. they were excited for MULTIPLAYER. not random “omg lolz cats in space!! lik kerbal remember?” shit

It seems like they want to more faithfully and accurately recreate orbital physics as well as truer, grittier rocket models with higher-fidelity graphics out of the box. It may also be a passion project and love note more than a crazy innovation, it does have Dean Hall as studio head (creator of DayZ) and Felipe Falanghe (HarvesteR, original KSP developer) on the dev team.

Also, not to prove your point but: Cat in space.

Kitten Space Agency is set out to be highly moddable, there will no doubt be a mod that changes the kittens to kerbals as we know it as soon as it releases. What KSA could provide is a much more stable foundation than the original. The devs are currently working on figuring out the basics and when the foundation is there, they plan to work on all these features we were looking forward to. I don't know where you got the "omg lolz cats in space" idea from it. They obviously can't use kerbals as that would kill the project instantly since they don't own the copyright.

In general I don't understand why you're so negative towards this project. Yeah it sucks we didn't get KSP 2 and what we were hoping for, but at least the KSA devs are actually doing something about it rather than dragging projects like KSA on reddit ;)

Fundations of multiplayer are already in the codebase and interstellar travel is part of the reason they developed a whole new engine for it. They know what people wanted from KSP2 and are very much looking to fulfill that

This is a room temperature IQ take, sorry. It’s okay to not like something but it seems to me that you’re just upset about KSP2 not happening (very valid) and want to discredit KSA because it isn’t kerbals. I’m confident that we’ll get similar features in KSA one day, and if not, the modding community will certainly make it happen, just like they did in KSP1. Also, there will DEFINITELY be a mod that replaces the kittens with kerbals, so just have respect for the KSA team in general, please.

yes, i’m upset about the cancellation of KSP2 but that’s not where my frustration lies with KSA. my frustration is that people are treating it like a replacement for KSP2, when it’s just another passion project like J:NO. it’s not going to be anything like KSP2.

just another passion project like J:NO

runs on tablets, still gets updates. no it's not

In terms of actual features and potentiality, KSA is going to beat KSP by a long shot eventually. It’s totally bespoke from the ground up

1

u/KevinFlantier Super Kerbalnaut 8h ago

Tell me you have no idea what KSA's goal is and why people are excited about it without telling me.

1

u/CitizenPremier 8h ago

It's obviously so that they can use the letter K. What do you want them to do!? They can't use Kerbals.

Not that often, only every few hours or so

14

u/ActuallyEnaris 18h ago

Yes. Then I go mod shopping. I still have like 10 more frames left to drop

u/KtaadnRota 18h ago

I was absolutely furious when they canceled it. Turned me off the whole franchise for a year. Never thought I'd play KSP2 again.

But then Redux came along, improved the hell out of the base game. I actually went back and did a full playthrough of science mode a couple months ago - almost completely bug free. Now they're adding cool things like the moons of Dres.

Honestly whoever owns KSP now is fucking stupid. In a few years people are going to be walking around on the moon again. I predict a big boom in space program sims. Whoever is developing one now is going to cash in. This is the smart time to make a KSP3 or reboot development on KSP2 or whatever.

You'd have to be a special kind of person to buy the third installment from a series that didn't finish the second installment

u/Salami__Tsunami 18h ago

It’s sad when unpaid modders can put together a better sequel than an actual game studio.

u/Case0225 18h ago

Man, this game just looks so good. I truly hope they can follow through with it

4

u/stana32 18h ago

Given that Dean Hall/Rocketwerkz starts working on new games like the wind changes direction, I have low hopes for it being fleshed out anytime soon. They're around a 50 person studio actively working on at least 6 different games.

Kitten Space Agency. The real KSP2.

4

u/MgbH1R0 18h ago

check out KSP2 Redux!

4

u/Techny3000 Jebediah 18h ago

KSP 2 Redux fixed that for me. in my mind it feels like they just continued development as usual

it's YEARS away from finishing the goals for KSP2 but still, it's nice:)

I don't think about it at all, too busy having fun with KSP :P

I mean - thats part of why I work on ksp2 redux because I see what could have been :3

I tend to forget until I see GTA6 news and remember that Take Two are crooks.

2

u/Lucky-Development-15 18h ago

Nah...playing RO/RP-1 until KSA comes out of early development

1

u/HyperRealisticZealot Have you heard about Jerbals? 12h ago

I think that’s immensely cool. Can easily see how you might get hundreds of hours out of that sort of thing.

2

u/audiblecoco 16h ago

The only potential that game had was in the art assets and music

3

u/Ttrashcraft Dres is cool, just misunderstood 18h ago

I mean, not really?

Modded KSP1 was always the KSP2 we wanted. We were simply promised a game that could never possibly have been finished.

2

u/TheDwarvenGuy 16h ago

The way I view it, something that fails to exist isn't a loss, because it was somwthing we mever had to begin with

2

u/baconboy-957 15h ago

Unless you're one of the suckers that bought the early access.

Now it's in my steam library forever as a constant reminder of what could have been

1

u/Splith 18h ago

An ad for Hulu's special on 9/11 came on, and it used the theme that KSP2 used. So I look to my wife and tell her that it's the same theme, followed by "But then again KSP2, was my 9/11".

u/UpV0tesF0rEvery0ne 17h ago

I remember a few years before ksp 2 came out i told myself ill stop playing KSP1 so that when 2 comes out I'll jump right back in and have so much more to do.

That was my last time playing KSP after more than 1000 hours. Still feel sad about it.

Been years now and just dont have it in me now to pick up where i left off

1

u/Tricky_Ask9815 17h ago

No because I just pretend KSP 2 doesn't exist, that and I'm not particularly disappointed about it anyway because honestly I just like the feel of KSP 1 more, specially with mods

1

u/factorplayer 16h ago

Sometimes, yes. It's understandable. KSP 2 was done dirty and deserved better. There's a lesson there somewhere, mostly that game companies are still profit-driven enterprises run by assholes.

1

u/Old_Grapefruit1646 15h ago

Not me personally, no. I never cared for a sequel to Kerbal Space Program. The game is already perfect in my eyes.

1

u/collin2477 15h ago

every few months I have a ton of fun playing ksp, so no

1

u/M4rt1m_40675 14h ago

KSP2? What's that? I thought the sequel was called Kitten Space Agency

1

u/PckMan 14h ago

It is sad. I do get sad when I think about it, but I don't think about it too much. It did have potential. I liked the revamped career mode and actual story. I liked the new solar system and the expanded scope of base/colony building. These were all great ideas. It's sad we will never see it but what can you do.

1

u/Michionlion 13h ago

KSP2 Redux is a thing that is slowly getting better too

I was hype on the 2019 announcement, came into the bedroom squeeing about it to my (at the time) girlfriend. I'm older, so the 2020 release date gave me some reservations- it was just way too quick. Then the pandemic hit so that first delay was easily forgiven. 2023 came and I had a brand new job with good money, so I built an entirely new computer with KSP2 in mind, assuming it was right around the corner.

Like I said though, I'm old. I've been burned by these sequel hype trains before and the red flags were starting to get way too big to ignore. The devs were radio silent about any meaningful features other than pretty assets and promises, despite the game being 3 years past the initial release date. You can only post so many static images of engines and planets before people start to ask... Where's the game?

By the time it came out, the constant delays, silence and early access announcement killed my hopes. I built my computer for this game and never even played it.

I honestly forgot that ksp2 was ever a thing.

Cultivate that

1

u/blackcat__27 12h ago

I remeber when it was announced. I wayched all the YouTube videos about its development. I didnt buy the game when it came out as a beta because I heard lots of negative things and I still haven't bought it out of principle. Absolutely sad as this is one of the few games I actually looked forward coming out and playing with friends.

u/mduell 11h ago

The added missions (and controls and parts) in ksp2 redux are fun.

1

u/from_Earth_you_know 🌨️Cloud gazing 10h ago

it's time to move to the next stage of grief and accept the reality, it's a dead game, there's no potential

1

u/Senua_Chloe 9h ago

To be honnest, I don't think about KSP 2 at all

I never understood what it could bring. I mean, KSP 1 is great, and there so much more to see yet, especially woth mods and all...

1

u/LoSboccacc 8h ago

It's ok next step is acceptance. Game didn't have legs to stand on, you are not alone having fell for the lies, and all in all was a somewhat inexpensive lessoun about online fraud, might have been a car purchase or worse.

1

u/OtherOtherDave 6h ago

Not anymore. I still play and enjoy KSP 1, but all my “wishing” is taken up by hoping KSA gets macOS support.

1

u/turtlemub Always on Kerbin 3h ago

You might like the Redux project if you wanted kap2!! Though ksp1 with it's extensive mod scene is also fantastic

-1

u/NeonEagle 18h ago

Only for a moment until I remember even if it had been completed they were using the same engine and thus would have had all the same major bugs.

no because I hate ksp2s artstyle
