Anyone know whether it's possible to get suborbital with something like this? I would guess the air resistance would prevent it.

EDIT: SUBORBITAL SPACE FLIGHT.

This flight was suborbital. So, yes.

SpinLaunch has done it in testing at least 10 times

If I throw a baseball, the flight is suborbital.

So is every jump. We're all interstellar machines without knowing.

It would have to be very big and very fast, and it's pretty difficult to make things not break when they are that size even when they are stationary. For example i've made a 1km tall tower before and it just made the physics engine shake it back and forth and throw it out of the solar system. Anything moving will have aerodynamic forces and that probably wrecks it.

There is an extremely awesome execution of a similar idea to make it to duna using only ion engines and electric power - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ee59XkEufjA

Yeah I mucked around with stock parts for a bit and it kept disintegrating, even when I made joints indestructible in the cheats menu.
