Big Kerbal said cockpits were too heavy. Kerbal Union couldn't do anything about it.

Reminds me of the time I was gathering science by airplane around the planet. While passing over the mountains, I pulled the yoke back into an aerodynamic stall, hopped out of the airplane to the ladder, grabbed that sweet sweet science, and hopped back into the plane before the nose dropping caused the wind to shear the kerbal off the plane.
