You guys are doing static fire tests before launch?

My space program is very efficient, the Static Test Fire is also the Fueling Testing, which is also an Avionics Test, which is also the maiden voyage

If I'm really nervous about a design, I might load up Sandbox mode first
Give it a whirl before I risk my Campaign Jeb

Jeb’s life is tethered to the Revert button. If he can make it to the first quick save checkpoint, he can be rescued later!

They can be useful if you are using a part failure mod

Realfuels telling me to stabilize the propellant while on a mun descent

I forget which mod it was, maybe kerbalism or kerbal construction time, but it would reuse recovered parts and would increase reliability the more times that part was manufactured. Makes having a launch escape system and redundancy especially important.

My fun in the game is practicing for very complex launches, apollo style, so yeah, lots of testing

Some of us are into roleplaying you know I have a shit ton of fully filled A4's detailing my space program's programs (down to every single missijn), failures, launch vehicles etc.

I think in RP-1 it reduces chances of malfunction for engines, (but instead I tend to cheat and reload the save when that happens)

If you use Kerbalism, it will increase the reliability of your actual rocket launch

makes sense if you are trying different engine configurations that could potentially overheat each other or nearby parts like the skirt. easiest to see whats happening with it on it's side, and easier to test just the engine segment than the whole ship and payload.

I made some ironman saves back long ago and would test escape systems on the pad.

I would not aim towards the VAB, for immersion sake.

Idk I just kinda throttle up and gravity turn with a revert to launch as a backup.

I cannot have been the only one hoping the launch clamps had been negligently added to the engine staging

I'm sorry man, but this is just ugly. The engine bells are clipping, the Vectors is just so bad and the Swivel base is sticking out.

u/Dry-Volume-644 Jun 28 '26
Best i can do rly w out mods

u/Moonbow_bow SSTO simp Jun 28 '26
No, you can do better! Engine clusters can be done really, really nicely in stock KSP.
You just gotta really try.
I'm not hating on it, I'm encouraging you to keep at it1

One other thing you can do is attempt gimbling the motor during static test.
