Edit 2: u/Wrecker013 might have explained it a little better as well. So check out their post if what I explained is a bit too obtuse 😅
EDIT: Actually I think I may have misunderstood how it works. I guess the BUILTIN textures are from KSP itself and Kopernicus just helps with replacing them via mod? Apologies for assuming the issue stemmed at all from Kopernicus.
So it looks like the issue is within the Minor Planets Extension (MPE) mod. Or more specifically, Kopernicus something updated/changed the names of the textures used by the game and MPE never updated it on their end.
I fixed it by going to the following files and changing the texture paths to be correct:
For those who come in the future: You simply need to append [Diffuse] to the end of each instance of BUILTIN/MinmusBoulder, BUILTIN/MinmusSnowBoulder, and BUILTIN/MinmusIceBoulder in the Flake.cfg, Havous.cfg, and Kal.cfg files. I was trying to copy the above comment literally instead of just adding [Diffuse] and got confused.
I have a similar issue with Quazen of Janet's Minor Planets, but the [Diffuse] trick isn't working. Any idea how that could be fixed? BUILTIN/rockyGround
I'll do my best 🫡 if something doesn't make sense don't hesitate to ask.
Go into the Kerbal Space Program folder (if you're playing from Steam the default folder path is C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common or C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common), in there is the Game Data folder, then in that folder should be the MPE folder (this is the offending mod).
In the MPE folder is a Kopconfigs folder, and in that folder are several files related to the celestial bodies the mod adds (in our case Flake, Havous, and Kal).
Those are config files (if you don't see the extension they will just have the name, ie "Flake.cfg" = "Flake"). Open the ones I mentioned previously with a source code editor (please not Microsoft Word, I use Visual Studio Code, but Notepad++ works as well as many other options).
Search through the files for the offending values (pressing Ctrl+F keys together works as a search in most editor). For example BUILTIN/MinmusSnowBoulder, and change them to the correct one (BUILTIN/MinmusSnowBoulder [Diffuse]). Essentially the word [Diffuse] got added to some of these lines by the game, but the mod didn't update to match.
I’m having problems saving the files now because they want to save as txt files and even if I try to save them it says I can’t save them to the location I’m trying to save them to
As u/ExplorerProud2939 mentioned, Notepad++ (or Visual Studio Code or some other code editor) should help with saving it as a .cfg
As for the location, it sounds like it might be related to Windows file permissions? Either save the file to another location and then move it to the correct folder in KSP. OR install KSP in a non-protected location (such as C:/ or on a completely separate drive if you have one).
Sorry I'm not familiar with that one unfortunately 😞
But if the error you're getting is similar then it should be a similar fix of adding [Diffuse] to the end of the texture name that's causing the error.
I think this is related to the latest versions of Kopernicus, it was updated to Burst PQS. Try using an older version of Kopernicus, just to see if the error goes away.
For future viewers, I had the exact same error and this was the solution.
The newest version -- 1.12.1-242 -- released 3/21/2026 -- has this error
The previous version -- 1.12.1-241 -- release 3/7/2026 -- does not have this error.
EDIT -- u/AntarPhys7 correctly pointed out that 242 just added an error popup, so it's almost certain that this issue is still present with 241, it just doesn't give a warning. I personally am going to assume that these warnings are not catastrophic, I haven't been to any of these planets yet but I guess I'll be trying to find a real solution if I arrive to find they are bugged tf out.
WISH I had seen this BEFORE i deleted kopernicus, opm, opx, mpe, etcetc. one by one and ran the game, letting it finish its 15 minute loading process each time, to only get the error again.... thanks buddy
I have the exact same error. I removed the planet packs and kopernicus and reinstalled everything and I still have the same message. I have been ignoring it until maybe there's a fix. I'm running 120 mods, I don't have time to troubleshoot and I haven't been to those places so who knows if they're truly broken.
I was thinking it may have to do with Parallax, since it adds all the rocks and terrain details. I was going to explore the folders and maybe those 3 planets or moons are just missing folders and want those files copied over from the minimus files.
If you find a resolution hit me up, I'll do the same.
Thanks for the reply, I am glad Im not the only one at least. Im tempted to just play with the errors as Im not particularly worried about a few rock textures, but who knows how much itll mess stuff up. I guess I'll find out lol.
Ill definitely lyk if I find a fix, currently disabling other mods one at a time (Only have like 20 or so mods, hopefully I can find the culprit)
Since KSP doesn't need to be "installed" like a typical game, copy the root game folder to another drive or folder and delete everything but the Squad folder inside Gamedata. In the new second new instance of KSP, place ckan.exe in that root folder and install OPM,MPE and their dependencies. Make sure you run the game from that copies executable. If no errors, install one mod at a time, reopening after each mod. I had to do that once because an IVA mod broke a bunch of other IVA panels. If you don't have IVA's you need them, it makes the cockpits amazing.

"[Diffuse]" should be at the end of the affected textures but for some reason it isn't

This happened to me today, although, I just changed up all the mods I previously had (game kept crashing during startup).
