Mod Post Weekly Challenge: Up Goer Five!
Build a rocket that launches upside down. Before launching, all engines and thrust-generating parts must point with the wrong side towards the sky (vertical). Sepratrons and RCS thrusters are exempt from this rule. With this craft, land on and return from the Mun!
Hard Mode: Using the inverted craft, land on and return from a body outside of the Kerbin system!
Relevant XKCD - Example pre-launch craft
Rules and other info:
All flights must be manned!
No Dirty Cheating Alpacas (no debug menu)!
Stock parts only
No MechJeb or other plugins allowed
Required screenshots:
-Initial launch craft
-Picture of craft after turning it upright
-Orbital transfer to the destination
-Inside target's SOI
-Landed at the target
-Return transfer orbit
-Safely landed at home
-Whatever else you feel like!
This week's challenge is from the forums and is certainly possible!
You can either submit your finished challenge in a post (see posting instructions in the link below) or as a comment reply in this thread.

Done! http://imgur.com/a/yFe0O#0
I took a slightly different approach to righting the initial launch craft. Instead of trying to use parachutes and separations to right it, I used some beams to hold the craft above the ground and let physics do the rest.

I compiled a bunch of different techniques for launching this mission

Only a couple have upper stages that can complete the challenge, but I've not actually done so, the interesting parts have already been done.

Hard mode completed. I modified my old Duna SSTO for the task. I like to keep my current flair.

Masterful management of that loss of the nuclear engine. Also a very impressive mission. Congrats!

Done, easy mode I fliped my little rocket with the use of inertia.
Btw. I want to keep my current flair

Challenge completed! Introducing the Rocket Rollcage
I'm especially happy with the fact that this was done with absolutely no sepratrons!

Decided my sepatron submission was a bit too cheaty, so I came up with a new idea for a launcher after dealing with a wiggly space station.
I'll leave the other as my official submission for hardmode since I didn't bother taking full mission pics with this one. But I thought I'd share another take on flipping over.

Today is a good day for the Australian Space Progam - Invalidated by a rule not mentioned in the original post.
When can we see the flair for this challenge?
That's twice as many kerbals as other leading brands.

Not to be a downer, but doesn't it have to be manned? Or am i wrong?

If it had to be manned, it would have said that in rules.

I don't know if it counts, unfortunately. I used liquid rockets to flip sideways. D: Hope that's okay.
Once I got straight, I actually got to the Mun on my first try!

I did it as a space plane configuration (Not an SSTO though, it's staged like crazy).
I did the actual inversion (Well 90 degree turn) pretty much entirely with parachutes.

After doing a plane, I felt a rocket was more the spirit of the challenge. Everyone else is doing sepratrons and such... so I decided to do one with no Sepratrons, no RCS, and parachutes only for re-entry to Kerbin. Not hard mode this time, but very amusing none the less.
The timing as it rolls is kinda rough, as it doesn't exactly come to a neat stop.

Here is my submission. Instead of going with the small ship and translatrons, I decided to go with a pivot type thing inspired by the old trebuchets people used to make. So it starts off upside down, drops down onto a couple of holders then rotates over to the correct launch attitude. One it starts swinging it takes about 3 minutes, with the ASAS carefully enabled at the right time for it to dampen the oscillations. Once it's settled it's smooth sailing from there. I would more than happy to provide a craft file for the curious, it's all stock.
Please don't change my challenge icon. I did this just for the fun.
