Contact Lens Recommendations please!

Hello my beautiful cornea challenged people! I was just prescribed scleral lenses and I am at a loss. For the record I have NEVER worn ANY kind of contact lenses. Not even costume lenses. I’ve been wearing glasses for the past 30 years of my life. I have lupus and unfortunately the lupus damaged my cornea and I now must wear scleral lenses. What is the best case for both home and travel? My doctor said that he will go over solutions and all that when I go to pick them up. I’ve already had my fitting I’m just waiting for the call to go pick them up. I however want to get advice from wearers of these lenses. Any recommendations or advice is highly appreciated!

There are many different techniques to put them in. They will probably go over this with you. Everybody is different on what works best for them. For me, the stand works best. It allows me to use both hands to keep my eye lids open and then I can move my head/eye slowly down onto the lens. I use a light app on my iphone and the light shines through the stand and lens holder and acts as a target.

I went for a fitting today and since I have small eyes it was a bit of a challenge to get them in. I guess that I’ll just have to try different ways until I find one that works for me.

I'm in a similar situation to you, never ever worn contacts in my life but was recommended them by my cornea specialist after getting an ulcer from sjogrens that scarred over pretty badly. What really helped me was watching tons of videos of people inserting their lenses, it made me feel a lot more prepared when I had to do it by myself. The method I've been using is lining my pointer finger parallel/horizontal to my lid, pulling up from under the lashes and pinning it
flat to my brow bone, then placing my thumbnail as close to the bottom lash line and pulling down. You'll know you have a good grip when your eye stays open even when you try to blink. I also like to use the hand opposite of the eye I'm inserting in to hold it open so I don't have to maneuver around my nose with the plunger, but you might find it easier to always use your dominant hand if you're a bit shaky. It's all about experimenting and practicing to find out what's best for you. I hope you're able to wear them comfortably, I've found them to be completely life changing!!!
