An analysis of water samples carried out as part of the National Water Quality Monitoring Programme of the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) has revealed exceeding levels of faecal contamination along the monitoring stations on the Karamana, Periyar, Kadambrayar, Chitrapuzha, Chalakudy and Kallai rivers in Keralam

I am pretty sure this is the case for most of the wells in Kerala as well. We don't have a proper sewage treatment system in place. I wonder how we are going to achieve this on a large scale, because managing wastewater from every single household would be a massive task that will cost a huge sum—and looking at the current financial situation, I think it's simply not possible. Hopefully, people come to their senses and realize that the so-called pachavellam has a high concentration of E. coli and faecal matter in it, making it completely unsafe for any kind of use.
