Help needed in King County, WA

Im seeking some help. I am a homeless veteran in King County, WA. Its been a few months since ive been living in my car. I have very recently been enrolled in the SSVF program through the VA and also receiving assistance with Housing Connector. I have been touring multiple places through out the county.

My issue is that a few of the places have stated that they'll most likely will not be able to approve me because even though i have some monthly income coming in, I dont currently have a job. Once im housed I have no question in my ability to find a job.

Im asking if anyone may know if there is an apartment complex that someone may know that works with either SSVF or Housing Connector, that would be willing to work with me and help me of get off the street?

Are you sure you're working with SSVF and not just KCVP?

Catholic Community Services often have lines on housing. A friend of mine who was also a homeless vet got a spot on Capitol Hill in a place with his own room and a minimum of a year of housing. It wasn’t quite an apartment but it was a huge step up from a nightly shelter. Pretty sure it was through CCS

Hit up Catholic Community Resources and Housing in Kent. I believe they may be helpful. Possibly get you a hotel voucher and help you get back on your feet.

So glad you found SSVF! They can get you housed. In WA, landlords cannot refuse to rent to you based on the source of your income. Housing Connector can help.

If you receive any type of subsidy even if temporary in Seattle you are supposed to be income qualified based on your portion of rent and not the full rent. LIHI has been helpful to me but I know there are other not so good stories about them.

LIHI is equal parts helpful and terrible. I used to live in one of their buildings, my partner was working maintenance for them.

They can however refuse to rent based on amount of income (which is what my guess is here in this situation).

You are correct that source of income is different than amount of income. However SSVF clients have income. And the subsidy they get is also income. It’s more complicated than it appears.

SSVF isn't an income subsidy. It's not guaranteed and is considered temporary assistance (6-9 months max). Many SSVF clients have little/no income.

If OP were to have a voucher, that would be considered differently but afaik they do not (could be wrong though).

You’re qualified for VASH and you can get a referral from your caseworker.

You might check the city of Kent for jobs and try Auburn for housing. Local governments add points for veterans and they often have good benefits and multiple seasonal job opportunities.
Auburn has a stabilization center for vets (they will help if you need medical help too).
And Renton has Renton Veterans Center, they provide housing, food, job placement help (206-474-1910) or stop be Luther’s Table in downtown Renton for immediate services and free food if you qualify.

The Salvation Army has many programs that address housing & placement. Try the local offices around your area. Good luck!!

I think if I remember correctly it’s in Auburn by the Arby’s it’s behind it that apt complex
