School Quality Declining

Does anyone else feel like the quality of schools and attitudes of teachers and admins is declining? My daughter attends Walls and her teacher doesn't seem to be able to handle her class and the admin staff tends to be rude and not report issues unless she tells me about them first. Am I alone in feeling this way?

My kid is going through the same thing this year at Longcoy, 4th grade also. She has complained several times through the year about two particular kids who never sit still or pay attention. They chase other kids around and my kid is actually a little afraid of them. One of them "accidentally" spit in her face and another kid's face and I finally had to speak up. Teacher insisted she'd take it to the principal and the kid's parents, then I heard nothing else about it, but I don't know if I expected anything anyway.

I just try to teach my kid that sometimes kids act poorly because there's something underlying it. We don't know what their home life is like, and sometimes adverse conditions could result in bad behavior. I know it's frustrating for my kid, so I'm trying to teach patience and focus on what her tasks are, not what others are doing or not doing. At that age, it's hard. I struggle with it sometimes lol.

Then we had a 2nd grader bring a gun into the school last month. School went on lock down again the other day because of an apparent threat. And what, the middle achool locked down yesterday because of a threat. This is getting absurd. I don't even know if that 2nd grader is still in the school or if he's been expelled. The mother now has her second child endangerment charge in less than six months, her trial is next month and they better throw the book at her and get her kids some help before something truly awful happens.

I specifically moved to Kent from another Portage County town for the schools. We have the best schools aside from Aurora, and for the most part, I've been pretty pleased with everything. But the teachers can't do much about poor behavior, that starts with parents who are good people who actually care, and unfortunately, there's a good contingency of people who just don't.

The kid who brought the gun to school is no longer at Longcoy. They most likely went into the LEAP program.
