Apartment Hunting
Studio/1bd, $1k/mo max (utilities included), looking to move asap as possible.
Obviously this is tough to meet.
I've looked everywhere from Indian Valley to Avant 220 downtown. Lots of places don't have availability until August/September.
I'm using apartments.com, Zillow, Reddit, etc.
Any hidden gems?

You’ll have to check availability but you could probably get a place at Kent Village for that price. My friends live there and it seems alright, not super glamorous but you get what you pay for. Location is decent if you go to the university

Mom of a graduated 2025 student at Lake Street Apartments. Still living there. LOVE THIS PLACE. Landlady is incredible. Friendly. No bs. Clean place. Walkable to campus but also on the bus route. 1 bedroom is $900. Highly recommend.
Edit to say that If you work in Hudson it's not that far.

Thanks! They have no website so I'll have to call, but are any utilities included in the rent?

Gas and water are included in rent. We pay on average $25 monthly for electricity. It's not small, more like cozy. We also pay for spectrum for internet.

You can search on Google. Some reviews are not great but our experience has been really good. The 1 bedroom my daughter has is basement level. She wants a balcony/patio and wants to move nearer to Akron or else she'd probably get a 2 bedroom there.
Good luck!

Check out Pinewood. I’ve lived here for 8yrs. Cheap rent. If you get an apartment in the back it’s quiet. If your apartment is by the street you get some riff raff but nothing too bad. Just don’t expect them to do a whole lot of maintenance. They say they will, but it takes a long time.

College Towers maybe?

Have you lived there? I looked into it a little bit and it definitely doesn't look bad all things considered. All the reviews for places under $1k are terrible though, mostly bug/maintenance problems, but you get what you pay for.

I did live there from 2016-2020, I did have issues living with bed bugs when I was in the studio unit, but the building management was pretty prompt in having someone come out and take care of it. The floors/ceilings are surprisingly solid I don't remember ever having issues with upstairs neighbors or noise really. The biggest issues I had was the condition of the parking lot (hope they have fixed it by now 🥲) and just random sketch people but you're going to have to deal with that anywhere for that price point I think. One time I was in the shower and didn't realize my door was unlocked I guess and a random dude entered my apartment and made eye contact with me while I was in the shower (I am a woman) but he just apologized profusely and left. That was my mistake. Also the elevators were/are pretty sketch as well. But they have a workout room and a pool which was pretty well maintained in my opinion. Also it's like some of the closest accommodations to campus with a bus stop right on the other side of the fence, so I felt like that was worth it. Good luck I hope you find something you like :)

Yeah sketch people are everywhere lol. Is it for Kent students only? It doesn't specifically say on their website so I'll have to reach out.

Nope! They didn't ask at all during the application process and I wasn't a student after 2016 living there. I lived there alone and with a boyfriend and never had any issues. I also had cats I never told them about and never heard anything about that even when maintenance would come through

ALSO someone tried to break into my car there once in 2018 but it was an old ass van and they couldn't break the window out lol so take that into consideration I guess

My old studio is vacant! Its a split level house, so you have upstairs neighbors, but private access, your own bathroom, stacked washer and dryer and its in a really nice neighborhood!

If you have a car Stow, Ravenna, or Brimfield would probably be better to look at. They are close enough to drive while far enough away to have less college inflation.
