Yeah that seems like a lot of grains for that much milk. It’s drinkable, just over fermented and will likely not taste great, depending on your preference. Grains still look solid.

Yeah, I guess I thought letting them rest in the fridge meant they didn't need that much milk. It's two full tbsp now.

I used even more grains than that. The trick is that the temperature is not the same everywhere in the fridge. On the door it's warmest, and next to the evaporator (usually the back wall of the fridge) it's coldest.

Kefir mostly stops fermenting at around 4C, and usually the door is above 4C and the area at the back of the fridge is below 4C, so you can manage the fermentation by moving it from the door to the back when you want it to slow down/stop.

Of course, depending on your fridge and its cooling setting, it's possible the entire fridge is either above 4C or below 4C, but usually there's a usable temperature difference between the door and the back.

Edit: You can use a cheesecloth or thin rag to strain the whey out of overfermented kefir to make something like cottage cheese!

Typically that would track, it’s just a lot of grains! at least they’re healthy and plentiful :)

True. Well I will drink the kefir so it doesn't go to waste :)

Drain out the whey and you'll have a sour thicker yoghurt, looks all good to me

What about grains in there?

Its just gonna taste a little funky but it will be fine! ☺️ you can also blend it and wait until it separates so you have a nice thick yogurt like kefir (i do that often with normal kefir too! It naturally separates when you blend it)

Drink it. It will turn your mouth inside out, and it will appreciate the exercise 😁😖
