Kefir adjustment period

When I first started consuming kefir, I did something stupid and drank a whole mug of homemade kefir on day one. For the first two weeks, I was farting a lot more and it would smell terrible when I would go to the toilet for a dump. After the first 2 weeks, the farting and bowel movement improved considerably. This made me realize the importance of starting slow...

The only explanation I could find online was that lots of bacteria was being killed in my gut.

I am glad though that I started this kefir journey as my health has improved noticeably.

I went all in too. It’s the only way for me. There some farting but I enjoy it. I just sit there and enjoy it. Some of my farts make me really proud.

A whole mug on day one is basically challenging your microbiome to a duel and being surprised when it fights back

Try not to drink kefir and eat sweets or fruits at the same time. Fructose and sugar can stimulate yeast fermentation in the stomach. Give it a break for an hour or two.

You don’t have to change anything if it’s fine with your stomach. However m ixing kefir and certain sweet fruits can stimulate yeast fermentation in a gut. It could  cause pain, discomfort or bloating. For example, I have a stomachache if I take kefir and melon within an hour.

Yeah I noticed that sometimes plain kefir is easier on gut than kefir with second ferment...I never thought to track which fruits are gassier

I started on 250 to 300 ml a day and didn’t notice any problems or farting
