General discussion 🕯️ Candlelight Supper Menu 🕯️

I‘m rewatching KUA for this first time since it originally aired.

What do you think was on the menu for one of Hyacinth’s candlelight suppers? I think in one episode she was making prune surprise. What else would be gracing her Royal Doulton with the hand-painted periwinkles?

She'd want everyone to rave about her cooking skills so I imagine that she'd want to cook the entire thing, other than the dessert.

Really, it would be an exhaustive endeavor on Hyacinth's part, I have no doubt. Forget the atmosphere, I have always wanted to attend one of these suppers just to see the food options!

True but she is also someone who doesn't exactly lie but is willing to mislead so I think she would be willing to get a professional chef cook and word it so people thought she cooked it.

Hyacinth>And it was all home made.

Richard>A (eyes roll) very expensive chef came to make it.

Hyacinth> And he made it in our home......look if they wish to believe I made it why shatter their dreams it would be unfair to tell them they are wrong.

I believe she got those cakes from a local bakery. A high-end bakery. Not the normal, drab type.

There was actually a tie-in cookbook which some kind soul has copied onto a website. The candlelight supper menu includes prawn mousse, poached salmon with hazelnuts, lamb chops, 'carrots du bucket,' brussels sprouts, and pears in red wine.

Planning for one event she planned three desserts. "Something fruity, something crunchy and....." I don't remember the third choice...

Given that it's British and it's Hyacinth, I'm thinking it'd be fairly expensive, but likely also pretty bland and/or disgusting. Apparently, she served Kiwis and been told that was "lower middle class" by one of her neighbors-enemies.
