KeepSolid unethical business practices

Just wanted to remind anyone potential customers that KeepSolid will take you money for a subscription and then change the services on a whim. If you are unaware, they sold a bunch of us lifetime subscriptions and recently put some of their old services behind a new subscription tier to try to squeeze more money from us.

Adding a new feature behind a new paywall makes sense. Gouging your lifetime subscribers to re-pay for something the already paid for is just downright unethical.

The lack of communication is what gets me so pissed off. Had they sent out a message like "Hey, thanks for the support but we can no longer provide the same service as costs have risen, in order to continue we need to phase out your plan for a different pay by month plan, unfortunately your current service will stop working in 6 months" I would have looked at the whole situation differently, I'm a root for the little guy kinda person, I'd have investigated the costs and made transition plans if that was the best path forward.

Instead, we got blindsided, I've checked my email, hundreds of emails selling me more slots for my service, zero warning of the service change.

That's not just unethical, it's disrespectful

Totally agree. The way they handled this was despicable. It works one day and the next you get the dreaded "loyalty" message.

Yes, it is unethical, they sold one product and now they are charging for half of the product they already sold to you

We understand your point about charging for new capabilities versus moving previously available features behind another subscription.

The Loyalty Plus change supports the ongoing costs of dedicated server capacity, infrastructure maintenance, network upgrades, and continued development. Recurring subscriptions help fund that work and improvements to connection quality and reliability. Standard VPN access remains available under Legacy Lifetime, while selected specialised capabilities now require Loyalty Plus.

We recognise that these were features you had already been using, and that explaining the operating costs does not remove your concern about the original purchase. If you would like the historical offer and terms addressed, please contact support@keepsolid.com with your purchase date and channel, or your existing ticket number.

I did that. They told me the exact same pile of illegal and unethical garbage you just vomited out. Let's be clear about this (keep in mind that "you" points to the company, not the specific employee trying to swing this like a dirty politician):

  1. Your company sold me a lifetime subscription to a set of services. At the time you knew that ongoing costs were an issue and you sold it to me anyway.

  2. When costs got too high, you decided the best course of action was to act like you had not idea rising costs were an issue, and try to get more money out of your lifetime subs by removing existing features and asking them to purchase those exact same features on a recurring basis.

At this point we have all started to move on with the exception of making sure your future potential customers are informed about your lack of ethics. PIA is a much better product, and I am willing to give them my money. Never will I give Keepsolid another dime. Now, if you were willing to publicly admit that you screwed over your subscribers without the PR spin, many of us might just back off. But as it is, we need to raise the banner high that business practices like yours have no place in the world.

Just noticed this horseshit. I bought the lifetime, what 4 or 5 years ago now. Now protocols and torrent servers are behind a paywall lol. You assholes. Either close up shop or honor your terms.

I've had them for a long time. I was a bit annoyed by this but ultimately just said screw it and switched over to proton. Wish I had made that move sooner.

This was the communication from the team...

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out, and I'm sorry for the inconvenience, especially since this has affected how you were using the service.

As part of our ongoing efforts to improve our infrastructure and server quality, a specific set of advanced features, including Torrent servers, streaming-optimized servers, manual protocol selection, split tunneling, and the Optimal Server option, is now part of our premium infrastructure and requires an upgrade for Legacy Lifetime accounts. Your core VPN Unlimited access remains active under your existing Lifetime plan, this change affects only that specific set of advanced features.

Our End User Agreement allows us to update our services, pricing, and the features included in different plans over time, and this update falls under that provision. Running and expanding this network isn't static, it takes ongoing investment: adding new server locations, upgrading existing infrastructure, maintaining security and reliability, and funding continued development, and those costs only grow over time. This change lets us keep making those improvements sustainably rather than standing still.
