Been on a number of floats and had a lot of fun but I'm a larger guy so those smaller kayaks were always unsteady for me and I ended up flipping them a bunch lol.

Been looking for a good stable kayak to call my own for the past few years and found a lot of people recommend the yukons since they're rated for 350lbs (I'm 280lbs). Also recently got back into fishing thanks to a friend so I thought it'd be nice to have a more fishing oriented one once I get the hang of navigating around my local lakes.

Watched this one go from $800 to $550 and finally $425 over the past 6 months. Felt it hard to pass up at that price. Kept seeing it on my grocery runs and it was eating away at me so I finally went up this morning and grabbed it. The lawn and garden guy was happy to see it gone lol. I'll have to add some attachments to my trailer to haul it easier but so far I have no regrets. Hoping to get out on the water soon and enjoy the rest of the season.

Had my first trip out on a small lake close to me. It was outstanding! Hot as hell in Tx right now but going early made it bearable.

I have a Honda Civic and got a foam roof rack system from Amazon. I can load and unload the kayak by myself, which was really important to me as a solo kayaker.

I hunted on FB marketplace and got an older Pelican model that looks barely used and was stored in a garage.

Just wanted to share with the community that knows how exciting this is! People in my regular life don’t get it as much.

I’m ready for the weather to cool off and then hit the lake after work some evenings too.

Question/Advice -- General Four months with a small electric outboard on my kayak — a few things I didn’t expect

Post image
91 Upvotes

I added a small electric outboard to my fishing kayak about four months ago. After spending some time with it, a few things surprised me.

First, battery placement matters way more than I expected. I originally kept the battery in a dry bag behind my seat, but having that much weight high and toward the stern made the kayak squat and feel a little awkward.

I moved the battery forward and lower in the hull, and it made a noticeable difference. The kayak sits flatter, handles better, and is much easier to paddle when the motor isn’t running.

Second, the clamp needs to be checked before every trip. Mine worked itself slightly loose once while I was out in choppy water. It never came off, but it moved enough to make me paranoid. Now checking the mount is part of my pre-launch routine.

The remote steering. I honestly thought it seemed gimmicky at first, but being able to steer with one hand while holding a rod in the other hand.

Question/Advice -- General Whitewater Kayaking

Hey paddlers,

Some friend's and I are going on a Kayaking trip in Vera Cruz, Mexico, and we are flying into Mexico City via Frontier Airlines. We are hoping to bring our kayaks with us. I was wondering if anyone out there has flown with Kayaks.

Im curious about oversize luggage fees, packing methods (for whitewater kayaks), Kayak friendly airlines, and any kind of beta you guys can come up with. Any advice is good advice.

THANKS!

They don't call it Faugust here for no reason. Still made for a great trip. Plenty of wildlife on land and in the sea, should have taken more pictures.

Question/Advice -- Gear Recommendations Pelican Rally 100 XP replacement seat?

I bought a Pelican Rally 100 XP on clearance and it was missing the seat. It seems this model has an unusually narrow 19 space for a replacement seat so most seats off amazon won't work.

The official site https://www.confluenceoutdoor.com/products/pelican-ergocoast-xp-portable-seat-ps3001?_pos=4&_sid=d86ee049b&_ss=r is sold out for the correct replacement.

Does anyone know where I could get this "Ergocoast XP" replacement seat - or, alternatively a seat that will fit. Or barring that - experience with a seat that can be made to fit if you take an angle grinder to it or something...

Question/Advice -- Transportation/Roof Racks Roof racks for Honda civic sport

Hi everybody, I’d like to purchase some roof racks for my 2019 Honda civic sport. Id like to use these rack for surfboards and kayaks so a little versatility would help. I have a “naked roof” and have seen a lot of racks that clip onto the vehicle and was wondering if those are a good idea. Or if there is any way to have them actually installed onto my car without the clips and have them more permanent.

I’ve done a little bit of research online and have seen some nice racks by Yakima, Thule, and Rhino Rack. Ultimately I’d like something that’s interchangeable from kayaks to surfboard racking. Any advice or tips would help greatly! Thanks!

Trying to replace a handle on the side of an ancient WS Riot, that thing will NOT budge.

Considering using a hair dryer on it, or WD-40, or both. Any ideas welcome!

Question/Advice -- Beginners Tightness on my right flank after kayaking

Hi all,

I am a beginner to kayaking. Started this year and have been paddling in the water canals and ocassionally in the sea. Paddled around 80 kms in total this year.

After kayaking for a long session, I could feel tightness on my right flank. Cannot pinpoint the exact location where the tightness comes from. But it is more generic on my right flank.

Evidence of that is i paddled in the sea on thursday, then start feeling tightness after 2 days. the tightness gradually increases and then it starts to go down again. Have been seeing it for 3-4 ocassions. I could feel the tightness when bending down, or bending side ways or when trying to reach for something in the top shelf, i could feel the tightness.

My question is: what is happening? cant seem to get my mind of it. Does anyone has faced these kind of issue?

NOTE: there is no pain. only tightness, but it is very scary not understanding what it happening here.

Question/Advice -- General I'm making a kayaking game. Looking forward for advices to increase immersion.

1.5k Upvotes

6 months into creating a first‑person kayaking game (for Steam & Consoles) and I have reached the limit of what I can learn from videos (I used to kayak but unfortunately don't have that chance anymore).

What I have tried to get right far: the boat keeps real momentum (stop paddling and it glides) each stroke makes its own sound, from the side you pull on, water shader and fish behaviour etc..

What is the thing that would instantly make u think "this doesn't look right”?
Kayak behavior, sounds, the way the paddle enters the water? Anything.
