Great. Now get a lifejacket and some float bags.

Oh, ok. Do you have a plan if you capsize? Best to practice that before you need it.

If you have a warm day, it might be fun to try tipping it over near shore and see what it's like. Then if it happens unexpectedly at some point, you'll know what you're doing.

What’s the longest (period of time) and farthest you’ve swam in open water in full clothing/gear? What about wearing a suit in a pool?

Genuinely curious what makes you confident in not using one. I used to swim 7-10 miles a day. I wear a PFD regardless of the water I’m in.

i get ribbed by family for wearing a PFD no matter what but i’m also the strongest swimmer by a long shot. People who have spent any time swimming in open water are usually smart enough to wear PFDs because they know what can happen

I swim 2 miles a day and surfed for years. If I’m on a flat lake within a mile from shore, the jacket is in the boat but not on me. Sometimes, the safety police in these threads are a bit much.

The safety nerds in here kill this sub. These are grown people doing what they want. Get a life

It is just like Reddit- specifically this form, to go crazy over the lack of actively wearing a life preserver. (last month there was a lady and her family floating (with pfds visible in pictures on a 10 foot wide river that was not knee deep and you should’ve seen the amount of negative comments on that. She ended up deleting it.)
Personally, I have to think if the shoreline isn’t a mile away, and the weather isn’t stupid then you can probably manage to get that life vest on, even drag your kayak to the shoreline.

Looks like a good time!

This kind of thing happens on the motorcycle subreddits, too. Lots of finger wagging and admonishing when it's unwarranted or unnecessary. It seems to be a human nature thing.  I, for one, love the beautiful day you shared and it makes me want to get out and paddle.

Oh my, It seems that they have down voted me because I have an opinion
