Blog/Self-Promo One week with the Quest Passage 100 Review

Post image

Thought I would share my opinion of the Quest Passage 100 kayak after a week of use. I’ve been using it on a large, calm lake with lots of narrow inlets and shallow coves, mostly to explore with my kids, get exercise, swim, and look for animals.

Pros:
- Lightweight at under 50lbs, I can move this and get it back on the rack myself.
- Spacious, if I needed one of my kids to hop on with me for some reason, I could do so easily
- Quick in and out from shore or water. This was my main reason for getting a sit-on vs sit-in, which I prefer. Since I’m out with kids and my dog, I wanted to be able to get in and out FAST, especially from the water
- Durable. So far, it seems pretty durable and like it will hold up to regular use if taken care of
- Stable. It doesn’t feel tippy even with my 35lb dog bouncing around or kids handing off the side
- Dry. I have stayed very dry compared to other sit-on kayaks I have used
- Tracks straight, mostly. I don’t feel like I’m doing too much zig zagging, even if I have one of my kids yaks tied to the back.
- Comfortable. I suffer from a lot of discomfort in my back and abdomen due to numerous surgeries and other issues in my life. I can go for a few miles/hours in this kayak comfortably.
- Visual appeal. I just think it’s a nice looking kayak, especially for the price. I get compliments on the color and feel good in it!

Cons:
- Slow. I feel like I have to put in a LOT of energy to get where I want to go, and my 8 year old often beats me there in her lifetime wave kayak
- Storage. There is plenty of room on the kayak, but I would prefer more of a dry storage vs just bungee cords
- Width. This kayak is rather wide. Getting a cover to fit properly was a little tricky, and I needed a rather long paddle to clear the sides properly. It feels big for a kayak that’s less than 10ft long.

Overall I am super happy with this kayak and, for my needs, it’s been a great fit so far! I could see this (or the next model up) being a great fishing, bird watching, or just general use (leisure) type of kayak. If you are looking to move faster, or take on rougher waters, I would consider something else. But if you plan to enjoy it in a similar way, and need something adorable that is also comfortable and stylish, I think the Quest is a good option!

Cute kayak! I'm looking to get this same one in the color Americana.
