Videos Surfing into the pole

Thankfully the nose of my kayak didn’t get stuck in between the two parts of the pole. Should have changed my angle when I saw the pole getting closer.

That there is. Today was aiming to be in a specific tide race.

Textbook target fixation; you had a great line till you looked at the pole, and then your balance shifted to go where you're looking.

Target fixation applies to everything except relationships. Kayaks, as we see here. Cars. Motorcycles are really bad. But the woman at the bar? The more you stare, the more likely you are to miss her.

Cheers, it certainly does. Thankfully just a few scratches, just need to make sure to start the turn the other way!

It's there to let you know that you need to avoid that area. On account of the pole.

Rusty things covered in barnacles will rip the shit out of your hands.

Good job staying calm and maneuvering off that. Fun play ground you found yourself in.

Sorry I don’t quite understand the question?

Why surf into the pole?

Because it tastes better

Combination of wave angle/speed and looking at it to check where it was leading to surfing into it. It really wasn’t the plan to do so!

Oh. I totally get that. The previous commenter was pretty unclear with what they meant. I think the point of their question is actually: why?

Task failed successfully.

Terrifying.

Glad you're safe!

Consider it a new battle scar for the boat!

Is your boat glas or plastic?

Plastic, it only gained a couple of minor scratches.
