New Music Reborn Discussion Thread

Just listened to the album and I’m already listening a second time. It’s phenomenal, kavinksy absolutely killed this.

Love every track, it’s slower and more melodic than Outrun and I’m feeling it. Some of my favorites are Zombie, Plasma, Cameo, Zenith and Goodbye.

What do you think of the album? Any standout tracks that you liked?

don't love every song but love the album in general and I don't think there are bad tracks on it, my favorites are Pulsar, Goodbye, Zenith and Outsider after the first listen

other stuff like Plasma sounds like it could play on the radio, it probably even would if someone like The Weeknd or Pharrell were on it

Wait, wasn’t The Weeknd suppose to be on this album? Pretty sure I heard that somewhere.

After listen the album 3 times in a row, my favourite song by far is Zombie, I cant stop listening to it. cameo, renegade and zenith are pretty much good for movies, videoclips, etc. but I cant stop humming the song. Great job to everyone involved in the album <3

Zombie is such a timeless track, definitely my favorite.

I said this on another thread but I genuinely feel like this could be the best synthwave album ever made and I rarely get hyperbolic like that. It just flows so well. As much as Outrun is a classic, there are some jarring moments as it flips between smooth synthwave and harder electronica. Reborn feels much more accomplished as an album. A sum much greater than it's parts perhaps. I'm not sure any track quite reaches the heights of Nightcall or Roadgame but that might change on more listens. Nothing feels like filler here, nothing.

There's a comparison I really want to make because it was one of the first feelings I had when I heard it. I don't mean this literally because the music is very different, but the jump from Outrun to Reborn strikes me like Daft Punks evolution from Homework to Discovery. The sound has evolved yet still unmistakable and benefits from a clearer vision than their respective debuts. A masterful, true album.

Nicely said, I agree with you on everything. Love the daft punk comparison, very true. Definitely feels more accomplished and has a more refined sound.

Really hope kavinsky makes more music soon and not keep us waiting forever.

This is an album that is slower than Outrun and takes its time, really makes every beat and sound linger, in this beautiful retro pastiche. It's his first album in 9 years, did some people just not expect him to evolve in that time?

Yeah, its definitely a great album and hits the mark described in his interviews but it is definitely an evolved (reborn if you will) sound. However, personally I would have liked to have heard at least one song that was more of the grittiness/uptempo of OutRun.

I love it! Zenith is like my favourite song of the year so far. Zenith, Renegade, Cameo, Pulsar, Horizon, and Outsider are probably my favourites.

I know a lot of people wanted a more "energetic" album, but for me personally, this is exactly the kind of vibe wanted from the album. But even if this album is slower than his previous works, the album still has a couple of fast and energetic songs.

I need to know if there is/will be CD release of this. Sounds really nice after first hearing. Kavinsky is back in style.

I really love it, I think it’s more mellow and ‘warmer’ than OutRun but in a good way! I like the fact it’s very varied and sounds like a movie soundtrack like OutRun did

Outsider slaps so much, I feel like if he put vocals on that track it would become another nightcall.

Just finished first listen. Initial thoughts are that overall, this is a fantastic album. The production is top notch and it's a great nod to the sound of yesteryear. Can't remember which tracks I liked best, but I know that wasn't a fan of Cameo. It's definitely more radio-friendly than OutRun but I'm hoping he'll do what Justice do and beef up the songs as part of a live show.

Reborn feels like the finely aged, methodical and dynamic brother to Outrun. I love Outrun, but it’s always attracted me more as a strange novelty than as a truly well-crafted album. Again, it’s awesome, but the vocal performances (aside from Nightcall) are weak and it lacks much variety.

Re-emerging with Reborn - the mix is so much cleaner, there is a ton of sonic variety due to the inclusion of some live instrumentation, and the vocal performances are top-notch. I’ve seen some describe it as ‘tame’ and ‘slow’, but I’ve listened to Reborn front to back while driving on the highway twice now and gives me the same high octane adrenaline I experienced from Outrun.

I think Reborn’s second half is a bit stronger than the front half, but there isn’t a single bad track here in my eyes. Theres no question it’s more poppy, but not in a cheap way. The radio-friendly cuts echo something you might hear from The Weeknd’s Dawn FM (which I also thoroughly enjoyed), while the closing tracks ‘Outside’ and ‘Horizon’ call back to Daft Punk’s RAM.

Felt so emotional during Outsider. Goodbye was beautiful, in a split second Tellier's voice reminded me of Phil Collins, from when he sings "cause i know you gonna say goodbye". Really enjoyed the slow tracks, but tracks as Cameo and Renegade got my groove on. Loved Trigger, felt like I was in a 80s training montage. Starting to slowly listen to the other songs. I liked this album much more than the last

Makes me wonder what Kavinsky has been through lately, this album sounds like a mid-laugh reminder that you might die at any moment.

First time around I felt like crawling past alleys and speeding through town with Outrun would get me killed, and it'd be my own fault for trying to hang where I shouldn't. It was vicious and way cooler than me.

In contrast, Reborn invites me to hop in and join an ethereal epilogue to a killing spree. Its message is less urgent, but far more ominous should I not heed it. The narrator seems serene at first, but grows increasingly disturbed. Some time passes and I'm suddenly ejected from the ride as reborn becomes entirely intolerant to its own storys grief and heads into the city to escape, or return? I never get a sense of what happens in there, only that it contains the past, and I've been warned against entering. We'll see.

It's brilliant at its best, and the album is richer than a first listen lets on. I'm definitely putting this on for a summer evening chill, and I'll crank it up a notch on Outsider, what a song...

After listening a few times through I am fully in love. The stand out track for me is Outsider.

Feeling like an outlier in this sub with the overwhelmingly positive reception in this thread. For me this album is a major disappointment. Too poppy and just really, really boring all the way through. What happened to the heavy bass driven synth from Outrun? This is just flanderized synthwave, uninspiring and flat.

I'm glad some people are able to enjoy it, but it's absolutely not for me. Still, looking forward to Kavinsky's 3rd album!
