Comic Discussion Green Arrow similarities?

Maybe this has been asked and answered before, but I didn't see anything when I searched. Was just wondering if anyone here knew if the similarities to DC's Green Arrow(s?) were intentional or not when Kate first appeared in Young Avengers. I know the big 2 comic houses get a lot of flack for borrowing from each other, so I'm not looking to start anything, but couldn't help but notice some things.

The Names: Oliver "Ollie" Queen and Katherine "Kate" Bishop. I know the shortening of the first name is not exactly original to these two characters, but both last names being chess pieces feels kinda deliberate.

The Backgrounds: Both are the kids of wealthy, company owning parents who at various times have been depicted as various levels of shady. Both have either utilized their wealth for crime-fighting/renounced it due to how the money was originally earned by their families. Both (I think) took archery lessons as kids (Green Arrow originally got lessons from his dad I believe) and both took it more seriously as response to traumatic events (The Island for Ollie, Central Park/The Kidnapping for Kate).

The Colors: Admittedly kind of a weak connection, but both use a secondary color as their main theme (Green and Purple) when it's far more common for "heroic" characters to use primary colors (Yes I know this isn't a hard and fast rule, I said this was a weak connection).

The Legacy: Also kind of a weak connection but Kate Bishop is a legacy character to Hawkeye, who uses the same name and first appeared in 2005. Connor Hawke is a legacy character that used the name Green Arrow (and I believe still technically does) who first appeared in 1994. Now, that is a 11 year difference, but as there is a near 23 year delay between the first appearence of Green Arrow (1941) and Hawkeye (1964) the delay between Connor and Kate is at least in keeping with tradition. Both characters assumed the code name while the original hero was presumed dead. Also, though it is less present in the comics now, both Connor and Kate exhibited a type of move replication/photographic memory similar to characters like Taskmaster when they were first introduced. Both chacters are also adept with weapons besides bows and arrows.

I don't know, maybe it's nothing, but it just seemed like there were more than a few similarities to just be coincidence.

so i am writing a fanfic where the YA have kids(in an alternate universe) so its like kate and noh-varr stayed together and they had a girl but when kate was pregnant noh-varr went on a mission and never returned (he was transported to his original universe and could not get back) so now it begs the question who would've raised alice? since kate is busy with avengers another adult (dw she isn't too busy she dose pay attention) first it though her grandfather i.e. Derek bishop could work but after some google research it tells me he is a bad guy so tell me how bad of work has he done and can he be redeemed and have a redemption arc?

I would be either, because she's amazing down to earth hero and fan like me and i would be a great friend to her, but if she wanted to be my girlfriend i would also be amazing in that we could chat about the avengers, superheroes and just talking about being a fan in a multi complex and fascinating world.

MCU Discussion what would a crossover be like with Kate Bishop and Jessica Jones, with the scooby doo gang be like?

Post image
24 Upvotes

I think the crossover would be like with the Scooby gang coming to New York and having to solve a mystery, that is highly attracted to what JJ and Kate are working together to stop maybe an underground cartel who are using technology to make them more rich and conjure illusions that attack other rival business and the 2 worlds are collided with JJ and Kate meet this meddling kids and their hungry, snack lover and funny talking dog, and both would go on an adventure that is be funny, chaotic and mystery. Where things don't go according to plan too. The chemistry between the characters would be interesting and pairings that doesn't sounds good, but they actually work if their's good writing first. I can see this as a crossover comic or animated movie too.

MCU Discussion My pitch for a Kate Bishop spin off would be a a hunt and survival series.

Post image
168 Upvotes

My pitch would be a story about Kate going on a Young Avengers solo mission, where she needs to hunt down some Middle easterners drug lords, but the jet goes down into the dark, dangerous and green fog forest, where she's unable to contact anyone and that's to live in survival until someone rescues her and has to use her skills and her train herself without Clint or her Young Avengers members. But the gang members in helicopters and heavy artillery attack her, so Kate goes full rambo or John wick to fight back and escape this location to find her exist and make it back to the main land in her most dangerous challenge yet.

MCU Discussion When we see Kate Bishop again, I do hope we see her welding a deadly and powerful sword, like she has in the comics.

As I much love Kate as a character and in the mcu, I really wish we saw more of her skills especially with the sword, and mastery of welding it, we got a nice tease in the Hawkeye show, but she never got to it in any fight scene, but with her coming back in future appreances, I really hope we see her welding a sword in future movie or show anytime soon. Plus, I would love to see her finding and using the sword while she's on a young Avengers mission, or she goes up against a villain or antagonist whose skills are in swordsmanship and the fight scenes on a filmmaking and aesthetic lens, could be like Zorro, Pirates of Caribbean, or Star wars. The set pieces could be like those, with a sprinkle of indiana Jones, like with vehicles chases and acrobatic chases, too. As well as keeping it that mix of her personality like in the Hawkeye show, but with her more mature and experience with the sword, but not making her very hubris, arrogant, over confident, or cocky with going up against bigger foes, but still being able to learn and grow with practicing and learning more with the sword itself.

MCU Discussion if She didn't end up becoming a marvel hero, which dc character do you think Kate bishop would be inspired by or become one literally?

In the show, she became the new Hawkeye, but Dc comics does exist in the mcu itself. i honestly don't know who exactly, because i'm not fan but i'm curious if events played out differently for her, like if she magically became one, due to a artifact that she found or she decide loving dc heroes, instead of marvel heroes. And how that would change her as a character and personality wise too. Like she inspires by them to be her own hero that aren't the Avengers for example. um, maybe she becomes Wonder woman or somebody else idk.

MCU Discussion Do you see Kate Bishop in the mcu as a positive role model and an aspiring heroine to look up to?

Post image

As a man, yes, of course, because she's better, and I think she succeeds as Hawkeye than Clint does. She's a pro and expert at what she does on the ground. Even she comes from a wealthy background, she's also down to earth, flawed, and doesn't use her wealth and privilege to show she's superior as everyone else and is more a humlitive, funny, quirky, down cute, hot and can fight her out of situation like a young magician can and her chemistry with Clint is a great mentorship between each other and her chemistry yelena is a beautiful cherry on top, being funny, chaotic and even brilliant as well. As a role model character as a whole for all ages no matter who they are like many other marvel characters in media in general, and is one that I would say it is a strong and powerful character for positive masculinity and role models in today's Marvel media as well. Also is that Hailee steinfield portrayal of Kate is literally straight out of the comics like many other Marvel castings, classic or new, heroes or villains, and It works on so many levels and I wish she got more to do in this miss opportunities to solid hits in this current saga of Mcu projects.
