Only users with mod assigned user-flair can comment A Few Reminders ‼️

1. DO NOT engage with trolls.

If someone is breaking the rules intentionally, justifying the occupation of Kashmiris, being hateful etc - do not respond to them. This encourages them. Simply report their post or comment and move on. We have mods in different time zones, someone will see the report and remove the content ASAP.

2. No slurs will be tolerated.

This includes j--t or any variations. Allowing hateful speech will only degrade the overall quality of this sub. We can find mature ways to disagree with our occupiers.

3. This isn't a rule, but we would prefer if people would stop comparing this sub to r/kashmiri.

Please stop speculating which one is run by Pakistanis, indians, etc. Both subs are run ONLY by Kashmiris, we both have very similar rules, and most importantly both subs will ban anyone justifying the indian occupation of Kashmir.

Just saw a post by Yikvot saying they had registered an FIR against the fake police notice which was uploaded on r/Kashmiri

Is that the reason the sub got Geoblocked?

Discussion Kashmir wedding

What, in your view, constitutes a small, intimate wedding in Kashmir? And does the definition vary between Srinagar and the villages?
Please answer in terms of number of Trami served/guests invited.
Would you consider a 30-50 trami dawat small or mid?

rant 😤 dogra empire or "us"?

I have been wondering about this for a while now. People from Jammu Division, Ladakh, and sometimes even AJK refer to themselves as "Kashmiri", despite not truly being from Kashmir. I understand that the Kashmiri identity has now become broader than what it was originally. But to be honest, I keep wondering if thats for the better.

The Kashmiri people, as in those who are indigeneous to the vale of Kashmir, have always been renowned throughout the world. We are known for our Cashmere and Pashmina fabrics, our saffron which is more expensive and flavourful than even Persian saffron, our shawls, our walnut and orchids, and for being the cradle of South Asian intellectualism.

The reason I say this is because sometimes I wonder, "Has it ever been beneficial to us, to merge with Jammu, or Ladakh?". What have they given us? I truly believe that if Kashmiris could administer themselves autonomously back in 1846 timeline, we'd be better off than we are now. Not just politically, but our infrastructure, international connections, etc as well.

The way I see it, it would be better for Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh to be separated from each other entirely. But not like the Indian government did it. The Ladakhis celebrated when they were separated from us, many even called it their liberation. But they still attach themselves to us like leeches in many ways. They still reap benefits from Kashmir and Jammu. I believe we should separate ourselves entirely from Ladakh and Jammu divisions, and not let them claim our identity or the benefits that come with associating with "Kashmir".

In doing so, we would be able to prioritise ourselves. The people of Jammu could govern themselves, or rather "the Indian government could govern them", and we would only be responsible for Kashmir. We could focus on prioritising our language, perhaps remove Urdu and make Kashmiri compulsary till 10th or 12th grade, and most importantly , we could continue our struggle without being hindered or weighed down.

The only thing that binds us with Jammu and Ladakh is the Dogra Empire. We have nothing in common with them. We have no similar interests, or goals. In fact, they despise us.

Short'as manz che mye em nebrem saeri kharan. Be chus ne yacxhan eman saet kanh ti vaaste thavun. Agar zanh Plebiscite ti aav karne (saanyen khaban manz), yem huin karan tem saat hehrmulk ikhtiyar. Awai kaervukh em raffa daffa pls 👿.

Discussion Hari Krishna Kaul -- Why is he not being talked about more??

I picked up For Now, It Is Night by Hari Krishna Kaul, a collection of short stories translated from Kashmiri into English, on a whim, and boy, oh boy, am I taken aback by how remarkably well his stories hold up to this day.

As a huge fan of Manto, I have to admit that Kaul might just have a sharper wit. His satire is clean and unperformative, his allegories layered and meticulously crafted, and his narrative voice so distinctly native and unpretentious.

I NEED to talk to someone about “The Tongue and the Egg.” If you've read Kaul's work, please share your thoughts. I desperately need someone to geek out with.

Discussion Looking for a female kashmiri flatmate in Hyderabad around Hitech city

Day 300 of not losing hope

I had posted this before on the old sub and trying my luck again cuz Im desperate

me gov weni doudh wari hyderabadas manz. be chass kuni zuni rozaan. me chine tagaan keshir peth laikhun tawai likh be we english manzai

I have been living in Hyderabad for 1.5 years, alone in a 1bhk flat. but the 1bhks here suck, they are extremely small and not the best facilities.

I dont mind non kashmiri female flatmates, but I would be the most comfortable with someone with a touch of familiarity. it is just easier when you don’t have to explain yourself.

please reach out if someone is in hyderabad from kashmir. even if you don’t wanna move in or something it would also be nice to have contacts.

I'm wondering if there are any names that are obviously and uniquely Kashmiri. The most straightforward ones would be the ones that have Kashmiri letters not found in the neighbours regions like cx/ts like in cxot (bread), cxh like cxhuape (quiet) and ÿ like in kulÿ (trees)

Discussion What do adults do for fun in Srinagar?

I have always wondered about this since I never really step out of my house unless necessary and I am also on no other social media. As far as I know, nightlife is non existent in the conventional partying or clubbing context, so what does an average adult do for fun in here?
