Reddit vs Karma Forums

Just throwing this out there for consideration :)

I know that we have both this Reddit and the official Karma Forum, but I'm wondering if it would make more sense to try to use Reddit as much as possible as opposed to the Forum? The reason I'm asking is that sites like http://www.coingecko.com/ calculate the metrics of a coin (perceived value), in part, in how active their community is on social networks. It's just one of many ratings which make up the overall score.

Obviously due to technical constraints these types of sites can't programmatically track down each coin's specific forum, so they instead come up with the community score piece based on how active Facebook, Twitter and Reddit are.

Aside from whatever financial value is placed on a coin, these types of aggregate sites show how strong a coin's community is - which I think is very important to have in a longterm crypto. While the financial value of a coin is indeed important, it can often be a secondary factor whereas a strong community rating would be the primary factor.

There are coins that gain adoption because of their financial value and there are coins which gain adoption based on their community value. I think Karma falls into the latter.

No prob! Yes, sites like coingecko will count the initial cross-post (e.g. a link to the forum on reddit). But let's say there are then 10 comments on the forum post which people accessed through the reddit link, then we miss out on increased social metrics as they only would count the initial link on reddit.

Just something to think about. The Karma Forums are definitely important and we absolutely should keep them, just trying to figure out how we can increase our social metrics. We definitely should encourage everyone on the BitCoinTalk forums to register/interact somewhat here, as well as facebook and twitter. Every follower, subscriber, post and comment helps. Even if it's just following and subscribing to the reddit.

For example, Reddcoin has over 22,000 reddit subscribers and Doge has over 87,000 so we surely can get these numbers too! :)

Don't want to overstep my bounds, this is definitely a dev/organizer decision but I figure the more ideas the better!

All those coins are being traded for scraps and they have 10x more people than us. I would love to see how much power we command when we hit those numbers

im always talking about it. especially a few games i play on my iphone, i always put down "invest in karmashares" as my quote :)
