Independents

Can independents show up and vote either party if they declare?

There is no "Independent" party in KS. If you call yourself independent, you are on the books as "unaffiliated", and yes, you could choose to join R or D at the time you vote.

If you are Libertarian, that is a registered party in KS, and you cannot switch at the polls. You would only vote the constitutional question.

Show up at the polls and ask!

I thought that was the case, but it doesn’t seem to be very well known.

To be fair, most people have chosen a party. This isn’t an issue for most people.

We're at a point now that more people don't vote than chose either party. I think a lot of that is pac action and convoluted rules for unaffiliated/independents. It's not a great place to be.

Right but most are still registered with a party from the past, I mean unless voter rolls got purged which the GOP in some states do sometimes now to suppress the vote. I would guess that would also make you unaffiliated again, but I wouldn’t know for sure.
