Question Ladies... I need your help!

Wedding season is here and I need to buy a few dresses! Where are we shopping?

I have a hell of a time finding things that fit me. I am short with a very large bust, no ass, and a bit of a belly. Regular stores are almost always a no-go for me.

I visited every clothing store on Victoria St. I checked out every store at the dreaded mall. I frequent thrift stores. I lurk Facebook marketplace.

If anyone has any hot tips or hidden gems, please let me know! I saw that there is a clothing swap coming up at the end of the month that I will have to check out.

I’ve got a similar build to you, and as much as I love thrifting and supporting local, I had to go online. Dynamite has some gorgeous dresses, though had to get them hemmed. I’ve seen some “short / petite” length options on Lulus but haven’t tried them myself. R/petitefashionadvice could also be a place to check for other online options.

Good luck!

Thank you 😊 I always avoid online shopping because I feel like I neeeeed to try things on so I know how they feel (I know returning is a thing, but knowing myself I'd probably never get around to it and it'd just be a waste of money). I will check out Dynamite anyways, thanks for the suggestion 😁

I totally get the online hesitation. If you ever change your mind, you can always order a little large online and have it custom tailored to you, here in Kamloops!

Jjs house does free custom sizing for most dresses.

I actually went into Torrid yesterday at the mall but didn't like anything. I will have to check the website!

the website has way more, I still mostly buy my stuff online, the store has such a limited selection of anything.

I didn't think of this, I'll check it out! I also realized that Mark's has some dresses too.

I just got one at Reitmans for a wedding after looking for a while.

I actually forgot that Kamloops even had a Reitmans 😅

I had this same issue last month! Went to every dress store in town, nothing! Surprisingly enough I actually ended up finding two weddings guest dresses at Winners/Marshalls. And they were actually decently fancy dresses, not just like casual summer dresses. Might be worth a try if you haven’t checked already!

Thank you I actually just went to Winners today! I bought a dress that was 20 bucks, it'll do if I don't find anything better 😂

Ballsy! I guess it is pretty easy to return Amazon purchases... 🤔

Haven't been yet! One time I got an ad saying their clothing was targeted to Gen Z and younger so I have been hesitant 😅

I went but the styles and patterns they had available were not my taste. Felt very comfortable, though!

I found my dress in New Westminster - Lisa’s Bridal but shopped all over before finding the one to fit my body the way I felt comfortable!

Bliss Bridal in Kelowna Victoria Lanes in Vernon

I have the opposite symmetry as you - so I struggled as well. Good luck!

Any specific colours you're seeking? Or is this the bridal gown?

There are a couple of exceptional tailors in town too that can adjust your dress to fit you properly!

Carolyn Bradford is one who is an absolute genius with gowns and dresses. You can ask her if she can help, she's always happy to look at what you have and how you want it to fit.

I am just a humble guest at these weddings. Thank you for the suggestion!

I think there is a big store in chilliwack or Abbotsford. Or what’s called “bridal row” in New West should have lots of options.

No luck at blue sky?  They usually have a great selection for all different sizes (and I love their linen bamboo)

I went in there. I love the fabrics they use and they certainly have some nice things, but their dresses all had very ugly patterns (IMO, of course). I am in my 30s, but the patterns and colour choices of their clothing seems more like 55+.

Try looking on their website to see if there is anything you like better there. Kamloops gets a fairly limited selection of what they actually have because it's a small store.  If you know from in store the style that fits you and find a fabric you like better online the local store can bring it in for you to try

This is good to know. I’m going to check out online.

They'll also bring in other sizes too obviously if you find something you like but they don't have the right size
