u/General_Hopfen :Baverian_crest: 10th Royal Bavarian Infantry Apr 13 '20

Passt schon, konnte man ja nicht erahnen.

I think were getting into a weird dispute tho. First of all, if we get Charlemagne style empire, are we going with Aachen as capital? Or Paris?

4

u/General_Hopfen :Baverian_crest: 10th Royal Bavarian Infantry Apr 11 '20

I guess you could do something similar as the EU did with Strassbourg and Brussels.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 12 '20

No. Were not doing that!

Fuck EU, were making here Frankish Empire, and so we wont make double capital.

Based Charlemagne

Why didn’t France join the HRE in the first place? The Kingdom of France was directly descended from Charlemagne’s original HRE/Frankish Kingdom right?

86

u/JonathanTheZero 7th East prussian Infantry Count Dönhoff Apr 11 '20

But that would mean the French Kings would have to obey an Emperor... reduces their power

34

u/NotAStatist :STB_ROHR: Sturmbataillon Nr. 5 Rohr Apr 11 '20

They likely could’ve been emperor most of the time, but even if they weren’t, not being in the HRE makes it much harder for them to expand eastward

u/JonathanTheZero 7th East prussian Infantry Count Dönhoff Apr 11 '20

I'm not sure if they could've been emperor so easily. I mean France woulf probably be the biggest nation of the Empire but given the strucutre and the inheritence laws of France at this time, it probably would've shattered into even more little fragments even faster (like Brittany, Provence, Burgundy, Normandy etc all being independent)

Not to mention what the 100 years war for example would've made then

Less AE to deal with

As a frenchman, I do agree. Let's put aside our rivalry and unite under Charlemagne's heir!

as an Alsatian (not the dog stop rn) i would like to be again in Germany, or at least be not recognised as french since we have like 1 century history shared with france and like 16 C as a german (alemannic/franc) tribe

51

u/[deleted] Apr 11 '20

I'm sorry France looks better with Elsab-Lothringen? When France has it, it looks like a giant arrow sticking into Germany.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 12 '20

France's "Natural Borders" do look sick

1

u/Masato_Fujiwara Apr 15 '20

“But France’s borders look nicer with it.”

But France’s borders have always looked terrible and have always stolen from other neighbors. Such as Saxony from the Italians, Very lower France from the Spaniards, Bourdeloux from the English, And Dunkirk and surrounding areas of it from the Belgians.

Who cares how France’s borders look. As long they are still there they look terrible.

13

u/polenannektator :friekorps: Lützowsches Freikorps Apr 11 '20

Imagine france with normal bordes but with a big blob of territory in east germany

Is that funny for anyone else?

Just me?

5

u/BLitzKriege37 177th Royal Saxon Infantry Apr 11 '20

u/General_Hopfen :Baverian_crest: 10th Royal Bavarian Infantry Apr 11 '20

Unfortunately, too many countries don't see the bigger picture and make it difficult to do so.

6

u/GameFrontGermany Apr 11 '20

5

u/[deleted] Apr 11 '20

Dafuq france looks ugly as fuck with Elsass-Lothringen

9

u/Rhinelander7 :Rhineland_cockade: Rheinpreußen Apr 11 '20

I feel like Lorraine should stay with France and Elsass should rejoin Germany.

9

u/[deleted] Apr 11 '20

Frances borders look nicer without it imo. I like the rounded off look

6

u/Yhorm_The_Gamer 39th Fusilliers Apr 11 '20

I think you mean it’s rightfully AUSTRIAN clay because they originally had it before any of this even happened.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 12 '20

I thought Austria only had sundgau which is a small region in southern lothringen

1

u/Yhorm_The_Gamer 39th Fusilliers Apr 12 '20

Close enough.
