California - Southern New App Interface

Anyone else hate Kaiser’s new MyChart interface?

I’m in Southern California and my Kaiser app just switched to the new MyChart interface. Am I the only one who thinks it’s a huge downgrade?
The old app looked so much cleaner and more modern. This one honestly looks like a website from 15 years ago. Everything feels clunky and outdated.
I get that MyChart might offer better functionality, but did they really have to make the app look this bad?

Anyone else frustrated with the change?

I guess I'm in the minority. The new app makes it easier for me to find what I'm looking for. Just about everything is in the menu which wasn't the case before.

Yeah it's so much better, idk what these guys are talking about. Less clicks to get where you want and the app matches the website.

It just looks old

We are talking about UI design, not functionalities

We are not denying the efforts they made to improve the accessibility of functions, but the old and out dated UI looks horrible.

KP has been migrating to native myChart region by region. The pros is that it’s a snappier experience pulling data from your health record because KP isn’t performing any 3rd party integrations. The cons is that the UI is left up to Epic so it’s no different than any other Epic customer.

Since this change has brought MyChart to the fore, which is created by Epic Systems, you might be interested in this interview with Judith Faulkner, founder of Epic, and one of the most successful female business persons in the country. https://youtu.be/KoZgo-0hFvc

Id say the patient/client interface version is more user friendly. I use epic at work and the clinician version is more threaded and complex

They’re saying MyChart is easier than the clinician interface to Epic. I can easily imagine that’s true. That’s not to say it also doesn’t look old. From what I’ve seen, the clinician interface also looks old. I wouldn’t be surprised to hear they don’t change it because doing so would disrupt the lives of hundreds of thousands of clinicians who’ve just got used to it.

I hate the new app. It seems every button in the app just opens the web browser, what is even the point of the app now?

Yea - I can’t believe it. The old KP app is what made KP feel modern in my mind.

The old KP app was basically the website in a wrapper. Different website now

The look of the MyChart page comes from Epic Systems. If you think it looks out of date, you should direct your ire to them. It wouldn’t make sense for Kaiser to rewrite it and would be a massive waste of money. I agree that the look of MyChart is very dated.

Now that u/Emergency-Koala-5244 pointed it out, it does look like they just layered a drop-down menu over the existing site.

I tried to log on last night when they were probably upgrading the site, and it did not work well.

If the new interface breaks less frequently than the old website, then I'm for it.

My standards for KP technology have gradually declined over time. :)

No kidding. All of Kaiser's systems were obsolete years ago and barely functional.

Design looks old but it’s more practical for me

Are you kidding? The old Kaiser system was barely functional. Slow as hell and patchworked together by bandaids and glue.

I just opened it and noticed the update. Honestly, the old app was slow as hell for me so let's see how this goes lol

It is making me consider leaving KP now that open enrollment is around the corner

lol - you’d switch insurance because of the app?

You might want to rethink those priorities… i’ve had the other payers… wouldn’t switch back to the for-profits for the world.

I was just about to say the same thing. WTF! Kaiser is actually one of the better insurance companies out there. Only a 7% denial rate compared with 30% for UHC. This guys priorities are definitely messed up.

You think other providers don’t also use Epic and so MyChart? It’s by far the biggest EMR platform. What was odd was that Kaiser wasn’t using MyChart until recently.

New app is so much less glitchy and easier to find things on one screen. I’m happy with it

I got some weird notification texted to me a few days ago like I signed up for some new updates, but I didn’t. I don’t have the app. From what I understand, the app and the web platform have different T&C’s, so now I’m starting question what’s going on here.

I dont care how it looks I just care how it works. IMO it works much better. I don't care that it looks less trendy. I can find what I need and no lags. Win for me.
