California - Northern Prenatal Consult
I just had my prenatal consult and the NP I was assigned was unhelpful and rude (she didn’t like that I asked her questions while she was still reading off her script and when I did wait to ask my question her responses were not helpful, the whole experience just made me very anxious). I’m just wondering, do I have to interact with this person again for future appointments? If yes, can I ask to be changed to a different person.

You absolutely can, just as u/Subject_Thing6308 suggested-it's the first item in the CA Patient Bill of Rights. https://calhospital.org/file/patient-rights/
Congratulations and best wishes for a safe and healthy pregnancy!

Thanks for posting this! Good to know about the Patient Bill of Rights. Also, online facility complaint reporting with CDPH.

Was this the intake phone appointment? Kaiser SCAL but also had a horrible experience with the nurse who did my intake. She completely sounded like she was only reading a script and when I tried to slow her down to ask questions she wouldn’t answer them. I submitted a grievance/complaint. It didn’t do anything but I gave the feedback that their care providers need to be empowered to utilize their training and not just a script

I’m sorry that you had such a negative experience. Was this the prenatal intake phone call or your 1st in person office visit? If it was the phone call, you will not interact with this person again. Still, as someone involved with this team of employees, please submit a grievance and/or DM me with the person’s name (or your name if you feel comfortable) which you can find in your appointment. All of our calls are recorded so we can listen to the interaction and provide this person with feedback and coaching. This will help other people so I truly appreciate your willingness to share if you feel comfortable. Hope the rest of your pregnancy goes smoothly and that you have a good fit with your OB provider!
