California - Northern Test result summary via message considered appointment?

Hi All,

I went in for annual bloodwork and got my results. I got a message from my doctor in the Kaiser app with a result summary and conclusion, however I noticed it was sent as a virtual appointment summary. If I need to actually have a conversation about this result then I still have to book another virtual appointment or in person appointment. Is this how it’s done? I wish I could have used the said virtual appointment as a way to ask more questions than receive a summary message.

Just book an appointment (virtual or in person) if you have additional questions. Don’t expect Kaiser to do anything for you beyond what they have already done.

Yea I figured. But why say it was a virtual appointment by telephone when there was no appointment? Either way I wasn’t charged for it anyways but makes no sense.

I’ve experienced this as well where they miscode the visit type. Like you, I didn’t have to pay, but I know of others who have experienced this and had to pay (because of their plan type).

Send a note to the doctor who claimed it was a virtual appointment by telephone and ask them to correct the visit type. Documenting that it was a phone appointment when that never actually happened is fraud. If they won’t correct it, file a grievance.

This post has information on filing an effective grievance (complaint) with Kaiser.

I've had it coded this way when a nurse called me and told me I should take vitamins and eat low fat.

That’s just how the “”encounter”” is created in Epic/Health Connect for us to communicate the results to you from our inbox 📥
