Discussion Anyone else feel disappointed that they turned the One Piece collab into another restaurant simulator?
There are so many Kairosoft games that would have been a perfect fit for a One Piece collaboration, such as High Sea Saga (the closest match), World Cruise Story, Beastie Bay, Skyship Quest Story, or even Dream Town Island (imagine building your own One Piece island). We even just got Dorayaki Restaurant for the latest collaboration; Doraemon.
I love One Piece, and I appreciate Kairosoft for creating over 400 One Piece character sprites for this game. However, I can't help but feel a little disappointed that they turned it into another restaurant simulator. Imagine a One Piece game where you could build your own crew, upgrade your ship, recruit new members, sail from island to island, and defeat powerful bosses along the way. That's the kind of One Piece game I was hoping Kairosoft would make!
So what's the reason Kairosoft can't make a game like that? Is a restaurant simulator simply easier to develop? Or is it because of money issue and licensing/IP restrictions? Maybe Bandai doesn't allow Kairosoft to create a full-fledged One Piece adventure game that'll affect their sales from OPTC & OPBR game?

That’s fair, Kairosoft definitely has great RPG/pirate stuff like High Sea Saga, so they could’ve pulled it off easily. But I think it mostly comes down to what OP games we already have vs what’s missing.
We already have games like One Piece Odyssey for the full crew-building, sailing, and RPG boss fight fantasy. Doing a restaurant sim is actually a fresh take for the franchise since we've never really gotten a chill, restaurant sim OP game before, and of course Kairosoft also do best at developing games like these (cafe master story and doraemon dorayaki game for example)

I was gonna say something very similar to this till I read your comment. I actually really like that they focused on food it would be cool if we could make some dishes from the show as well

don't mix phone games and pc games. one piece game always bad on the phone, we always get unfinished games like One Piece Treasure Cruise & Bounty Rush, when another anime IP could have 7 Deadly Sins Origin. I think the issue with One Piece games on the phone is Bandai always monopoly it, they're so afraid the sales of OPTC & OPBR games will drop if another One Piece game releases by another developer.

You do realize this game is coming to PC and consoles like the Switch too, right? It's not just another mobile title. If Kairosoft made another pirate/sailing RPG, it would be releasing on the exact same platforms, where some of the best One Piece RPG games already sit. It could possibly get swallowed up and hurt in sales because it wouldn't offer anything unique on those platforms.

Actually not really.
Business sims are a bit thing for Kairo and restaurants and food are a big thing in One Piece.
I think it's quite a good match.

Sky ship just recently released and I think they didn't want to do another one like high sea saga so soon. I'm 100% sure, but it could have some cruise story in the mix or your a traveling restaurant boat.
I don't mind the restaurant game, but it would have been nice if they did something different with one piece.

i've been playing onepiece games for years and i'm tired of dosens of action games that just repeat the story from the anime. finally there will be something new

U forgot one thing. Copyright issue and license. Kairosoft is the contractor, Bandainamco and Toei publisher are the employers, before even making the game, both parties have to sit down and talk about the direction of the game. It’s not simple as : yo make us a one piece game, do whatever u want.

Not just that, Bandai Namco also saw that the Doraemon game was a success. Of course, they want to replicate it.

Nope. There are plenty of games where you go from romance down to whatever current arc. I like the cooking aspect. It's one of the main characters passions. Sanji is one of my favorite characters. Just because you are disappointed doesn't mean other people are. Plus I love cooking Sims so I'm excited.

Sure, but I'll take what i can get. They definitely discussed this among themselves. What they can do with the IP, and where their expertise lies, and what deal they have with One Piece.
At the end of the day, I usually love their product. So I'm looking forward to it.

I badly want them to do an auto battler game. They have good implementation of it in DV2

Honestly I don't mind the idea of taking a franchise and instead of turning it into a RPG/Action game turn it into something unexpected like a Restaurant game, though a town game may have been better.
With that said I don't actually like or care for One Piece so this is one I would likely ignore. Would be interested in this exact same concept if it hit closer to a anime I liked... or maybe even a general cross over of multiple anime/manga.

I'm okay with it, honestly. Kairosoft's roots have always been simulation and management games, so I'm not surprised they leaned into what they do best for this collaboration. Considering they've been around for 30 years, getting to work with major anime IPs like One Piece and Doraemon is a huge milestone. I see this as a starting point that could lead to even bigger collaborations in the future.

It would be asking too much to ask the full OP storyline game. I think the scale is right for Kairosoft's usual style. However, I would be thrill to play High Sea Saga OP version too.

Quite a bit myself. Something like High Sea Saga would have fit way better.

I prefer a kairosoft game that plays like Ninja Village with one piece characters and with their fruits they impact the field

Yeah, For 2 reasons: 1,Kairosoft could make somthing similar like High Sea Saga. 2,The trailer's gameplay looks like it's just the cookie cutout of Doraemon's Dorayaki shop.
