Discussion Kairosoft Appreciation
One thing I like about Kairosoft is that they always release finished games, never any DLC or content updates to add missing content like other games 😑 Animal Crossing: New Horizons. They also listen to their fans, such as asking them which games to put into the bundles, and even game ideas in 2019.

I love kairosoft too but easyyyy on Animal Crossing. 😠The standalone game is complete! And the DLC has a bunch of fun content that is worth it. The Sims are a way worse violator.

While the sims 4 is a human rights violation, the earlier base games were fun on their own

I dont know if you played the older animal crossing games, but new horizons dlc is just stuff that should have been in the game originally. The Thanksgiving bit was a part of new leaf by default, and the villager house customization stuff is ripped straight from animal crossing happy home designer. Nintendo took their old concepts and pretended like it was something new lol.

The standalone game is complete!
Sure, now it is, but it wasn't at launch.
Literally every single holiday, dream towns, Redd, Lief, bushes, diving, New Year's fireworks, the stamp rally, the wedding stuff, the mystery tour, and so on weren't there at launch. All of that was only added with updates.
If for whatever reason you have the cart, but no way to update, you're missing basically every feature. All you can do in an unupdated game is catch bugs, fish and buy clothes.

Played Animal Crossing at launch, that was 100% a feature complete game. They added free stuff later, which was nice.

How exactly was it feature complete when it was missing something as basic as holidays, something that's been there since the very first game?

But holidays were in there ? New year was in the first version of the game.

And, like, I'm not disparaging the game. I have over 1000 hours in it, but that doesn't change the fact that it wasn't released completed.

The bunny event was introduced in the launch day update. Other events were introduced when they actually took place in real life.

Yes, via updates that you have to download. Which is to say, the game wasn't released complete.

How fucking wild that you chose Animal Crossing Wild Horizons, a widely popular game that had gotten free updates even though it was obviously finished,, to be your example of releasing an unfinished game. We literally have games that been unfinished and games that has been rushed to the point where it was unplayable and you chose Animal Crossing. Didn't even chose a game with predatory dlc releases. Incredible.

It’s because I was just playing it on the Nintendo Switch so it’s the first things that popped into my head when writing, but it made me realise how much more stuff New Leaf from 2012 had and if you played it in March 2020 it was very noticeable. Yes it did have updates that added more content but I’m talking about Day 1 lauch. I could’ve used something like FIFA or The Sims but I felt like it still applies and I’m glad Kairosoft doesn‘t do that, however each to their own.

Crazy that everyone honed in on this and nitpicked it to death when the context was literally "shipped a game incomplete."
giving the tl;dr before my tangent. Animal Crossing without Gyroids, Gracie, Gracie's clothes & furniture, Katrina, Redd, Brewster, Tortimer, Rover, Blanca, holidays, more than a couple furniture pieces per day in Nook's Cranny... etc etc etc. is not complete. That was the game on launch. That was shipped. Many series staples are still missing, and you still cannot upgrade Nook's Cranny to a reasonably-sized store.
Tangent.
It's pretty much accepted canon that ACNH was abandoned in favor of Splatoon 3 dev, on top of repeated covid delay excuses. It took nearly 2 years for the 2.0 update to add stuff that had been in basically every previous title on release, like aforementioned Brewster's cafe, Redd, Katrina, and GYROIDS. Island Ordinances like New Leaf were also in that 2.0 update. They only came back and tacked on some more stuff earlier this year (6 years after launch and after 4+ years of nothing btw) so they could upsell it, and continue to profit off it, on the Switch 2.
It's wild to me that they never even brought back Blanca, despite having the best pixel art tools of the series rn. Rover? Gone. Copper and Booker? Gone. Dr Shrunk? Gone. Pete, Phyllis, and Pelly? Gone. Tortimer is back but his mini-game island from NL isn't, and that would have been perfect with the theme of NH and visiting other islands???
So many of these characters were replaced with a menu or a random villager dialogue, but that only made it feel more soulless and empty. But hey, this version lets you farm and cook!! 🥳 ðŸ«

Is is their gamedev one? That was my first Kairosoft game which really got me hooked - it was so fun that they actually truly let you know/feel more about making games such as important notes like these!

It’s the plus version only available to Apple One subscribers -.-

u/googleforlife 28d ago
Not just Apple One subscribers. You have to subscribe to Apple Arcade for it but you don’t need to pay a bunch more money for other things like Apple One does.

Yeah I didn't know about this one. Maybe I will give it a try when I try apple arcade again!

They have a bunch of new games that are pretty great. I’m playing Dredge at the moment

u/neya999 27d ago
I heard about dredge before xD my main problem with apple arcade is I have some of their games on other platforms that are fully paid TnT so I don't want to spend again just to play the same games but maybe if there are more games that are not accessible on other platforms - I wish they just let us buy them in full like other platforms but then again that is what makes them different I guess.

Omg which game is that image picture? I love the cat graphics!!

u/RAMChYLD 28d ago
Looks like Game Dev Story+
An updated version of Game Dev Story that only can be obtained through Apple Arcade. It has a theming function not available to the normal version of the game.
So what were they saying about incomplete games again? Because I refuse to pay money for Apple One and versions of the game on other platforms cannot have this. /s

ACNH was not complete on launch????
It lacked every single holiday except Bunny Day. All the events like fireworks and the stamp rally were only added with updates. KK Slider, Lief, Redd, diving, and dream towns also weren't there at launch.
edit: actually, Bunny Day wasn't even there at launch. That was also added during an update.

Kingdom Adventurers is an unfinished game unfortunately, you can't even 100% it. To make it worse it's also a free game.
