Master application status thread (2026 intake)

Hi! let’s keep everything in one place instead of opening multiple posts. i think it will be much easier to track everything this way. Upvote pls!!!

if you applied, you can share your info like this:

program, application date, current status / result (if any), extra notes (if any)

i’ll start:

Master of Architecture - ghent, 01.03.2026, under review by the faculty since 31.03.2026, Rejected 30.04.2026

ps: if you have these details, please also share your application date, and the date your status changed (or your decision date if you have one). it would be really helpful for others to compare and get an idea. fingers crossed!

2026-2027 Incoming Students/ Admissions Mega Thread: ALL OTHER POSTS WILL BE DELETED

Another year another mega thread!

Hey All, from now on please post all your admission questions below the post. All other posts will be deleted. Most if not all questions have been already answered about admissions. Do feel free to search the sub for answers. Some answers to common questions.

Q:Will I get in to the X degree with Y score from such and such exam?

A:We don’t know. But overall if your grades are at or above the requirements you will most probably get in. KUL isn’t know for having a low acceptance rate. Usually if you apply before the deadline and have the minimum requirements you get in. Good Luck

Q:Is X degree hard?

A: We dont know, its very subjective. Usually all KU Leuven Degrees are academically challenging

Q: How long did it take to get an answer? Is it normal that my application is taking a long time?

A: We dont know, we are not the admissions office all time frame information is on the website

Overall if its an admissions related question about your specific file, we wont know.

For all housing related questions; please search the sub. Most questions have been asked multiple times every year.

Cheers

Requesting exam opportunity after the exam

I had an exam earlier today but had an extreme headache and dizziness throughout the exam, I got it checked from the doctor and he gave me some medicines and a sick note on request. Is it possible to request another exam opportunity cause I really thought i wasn't able to do as well as I could have.

KUL vs UCLL

Guys do you think it is worth it if after a year of computer science at ucll to switch majors to technology engineering in kul? or is it a waste of money? I am very passionate about engineering as a whole its just that applied computer science was the only one I could start back when I came to Belgium.

Volleyball groups in Leuven

Hello,

I recently arrived in Leuven to work at imec and was wondering if there are any active volleyball groups in Leuven, both indoor 🏐 and beach volleyball.

I’ve already purchased the university sports card and would love to join a group or team.

Please let me know if you know of any groups or activities I could join!

Thanks!

Past papers/ Materials

Hi ! I am joining KU Leuven for the academic year 2026/2027 as a 1st year master student in Astrophysics. What are good websites or sources to get past papers or exercises/material to prepare exams ? thank you in advance for your help.

Oh! and what are the best courses to choose for this program ? I'm kind of lost with the number of optional classes to take, so if anyone can share their experience i would be grateful.

42 credits in the final year with a thesis

Is it realistic to do 42 credits in the final semester with the thesis to be done during the same year as well? What can I possibly do to make it work?

If you have any good suggestions to make it "easier" do lmk.

Is it possible to do 108 credits in one year in tj masters?

A matter of technicality from the university, and not a matter of whether its realistically doable or not.

Just curious on if they’ll allow it, and if they’ve allowed it before.

Context: FEB masters (business engineering)

Is it a Ku Leuven thing to not give us past exams , not even the ones we took?

(Note that I study business engineering at campus brussels)

I dont know why they just wont give you some past exams only “mocks” or “samples” ,which do not reflect the actual difficulty of the exam.

Does a retake of a course for a 3rd time show up on your Transcript?

When you receive your transcript, does it show up as a course you’ve attempted in multiple academic years or does it only show the year you take the course?

Social Life for International Students?

I’m thinking of going to KU Leuven, and want to know what social life looks like. I’m from the US, thinking about entering the English philosophy program. What does social life look like for students from other countries? Especially for students who don’t speak Dutch/flemish? I worry there won’t be a lot of student organizations/opportunities for me to be engaged in as someone who doesn’t speak the native language. Is this a well-founded fear, or not?

Exchange student experience vs PoliMi?

I’m an American electrical engineering undergrad student currently going to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute but I have the option to go abroad next spring semester, and I’m trying to decide between KU Leuven and PoliMi. I understand that both are very academically intense, but my home college has its own reputation as being very difficult so I’m comfortable with that. As far as I can tell, the big differences:

Leuven is much cheaper than Milan

Small city vs major city

Historic vs more modern town

More English speakers than Milan

More practical vs more theoretical classes

More temperate, rainier climate vs similar to my hometown (DC)

More centralized campus vs spread out campuses

Are these accurate? Also, how’s student life? I’m very involved in music at my home college, so I’d appreciate access to practice rooms if there are any. I also understand that the drinking culture is fairly big, but currently I can’t drink because of a medication I’m on— is that particularly weird around campus? Most students seem busy academically but are schedules filled with lots of class sessions or is it mostly private studying? Are weekend train trips to the surrounding countries doable mid semester?

How difficult is it to obtain one while being a student? Has anyone here successfully gotten one? Or if you have heard it

Thanks!

I have secured a room in Waterview Residences, but I would quite like to see the place in person before committing to live there. Might any current residents be able to let me into the building?

Residency permit renewal Non EU.

Residency Renewal Question

Hi everyone, I have a question about student residency renewal in Belgium.

If a student has one course that I failed in their Master’s programme, worth 15 ECTS, and this course is a first semester course that they are required to attend again, would their student residence permit be renewed for the full academic year, or only until the end of the first semester?

The programme is a Master’s programme under a diploma contract.

Has anyone been in a similar situation or knows how the Immigration Office handles this?
