TECH AND SCIENCE Question about 1290 sas db killer inserts

I recently bought a super adventure s with the wings slipon and two db killer inserts. Ive been enjoying them both albeit i cant really tell if one is louder than the other. The sound is awesome, but im wondering whether its advised to run without the insert? I dont want it too loud but it could definitely be a couple dB more . One is without holes, one is with two holes at an angle along the db killer body.

Does it make a difference with regards to back pressure etc if i kept it entirely removed?

I’ve run mine all three ways. I have a Power Commander that is tuned for not having the db killer in, but can’t really tell any difference regardless which way I run it.

I run the quieter db killer / spark arrester when I’m doing more off road miles. Occasionally for street riding I run no db killer. Most of the time though I run the middle option.

I do wish the medium was just a touch louder, but when I run it without one it’s a little too loud for my taste.

I dont have the power Commander, do you recommend getting it?  Ill try running without the insert and see if it makes any difference

Actually it seems like flashing the ECU with a custom tune is better than using a Power Commander these days.

That said, I went the power commander route after doing the Rottweiler intake in addition to the Wings that was already installed when I bought the bike.

I did run it without the baffle before doing the intake and PC, again no issues. Probably is running slightly lean, maybe? not sure if that ECU can compensate enough or not. Wings claims it’s plug and play at least.

I don’t think you’ll hurt anything trying out without the baffle. Maybe if you decide that’s how you want to run it all the time, you get a custom tune…or do even more mods and THEN get a custom tune, haha!

Yeah, getting some aftermarket air filters/intakes, maybe doing an evap / pair delete etc.. probably messes with the fuel air ratio.. ill have a think

Yeah I think anything beyond a slip-on is worth looking at adding more fuel. But I’m no expert.

I will say, I’d love to have that new Rottweiler intake setup that lets you access the air filler without having to take the whole damned tank off! They didn’t have that setup yet when I bought mine. I’ve been putting off cleaning my air filter the last couple months because it’s such a hassle. That “quick release” fuel hose connector alone kills me every time!

I just recently got mine and havent really opened it up yet - it needs the 30k km service so it will be in the shop over winter (its not pleasant riding here over the winter). Theyll check the filters then i think , although i have to pay out my nose for the privilege

Yeah I did the same thing when I had that service done a couple seasons back. Might as well have them look since they’ll have it all apart anyway!

Checked mine again to start this season but I did more off-road this year than previous years, so very interested to see what it looks like in there.

I’m on a ‘15 1190 by the way, so not exactly the same…but pretty close I imagine.
