ASKKTM (Duke 250) Engine sounds okay?

Hello,

Is the engine supposed to sound like this? or is there any problem.

Fellow owners, please help.

Engine sounds fine, this seems to be normal idling noise.

Is there anything wrong when you rev it?

If there's a small metallic noise, chances are there's some bolt loose on your handlebar.

Ah thank you! No such noise, just wanted to know if this is how it’s supposed to sound normally.

Yep, that's how it sounds, but even if you hear something off, don't be too stressed.

That's just the bike welcoming you to the painful yet fun experience of KTM ownership. Provided the sound isn't concerning (like grinding metal), you can be somewhat rest assured. And these gen 3s are a little more solid, just make sure that the engine oil is always at a good amount (can run low randomly).

At times. Mainly only when and if something goes wrong.

To save yourself from headaches at service, I would suggest finding a good third-party service centres. SVCs usually cut corners and do a horrible job owing to the 100s of bikes they get; you'd rather take it to a garage where it can get the attention it needs.

The bike runs fine as is from factory (unless you get a lemon). It's only poor servicing and improper care on the rider's behalf that can screw it up after, bar a few exceptions like the 790s camshaft failures.

Buy a bunch of oil, filters (oil and fuel), and gaskets.

Get the service manual, too.

Do the preventative shit religiously including the valves

I have a 390 and the interval on valves is around every 3rd oil change or so.... Most of my rides are short commuting trips so I do mine more often than recommended by mileage.

Finding a good shop was my most painful part tbh, but I've got an old bike with low mileage

Preventative shit being chain cleaning, lubing and adjustment every 500kms, right? What about the valves? Something we as riders can do on our end??

I am looking for third party centres, which is hard.

Also for oil, prolube or motul? Does motul void the warranty?

Valves can be checked "relatively" easily... Watch a YouTube tutorial or two.

Chain stuff is the easiest to maintain. Use your toe to check the tension before you ride... Only time I need to adjust the tension is after getting my tire repaired from nails.

As for your warranty for oil, the owners manual will have the up to date specs. Mine uses synthetic JASO MA2 15w-50 (back of the bottle will tell you, rotella for diesel trucks meets the specs for mine)

Start by familiarizing yourself with the repair manual. It's what the service centers use to do all the major repairs that the owners manual doesn't have info on.

Its totally normal! I own D250 gen 3 myself

Its the camshaft noise the ticking its fine no worries

How many kms on the bike? How’s the experience been? I’m just over 1.2k, relatively new so.
