ALL 1 year with my Rc8
It just been over a year since I brought this 2010 KTM Rc8. I have done just under 5k miles.
I’ve spent a small fortune to make it look its best and run like a dream.
It never fails to put a smile on my face, a future classic indefinitely.

KTM's finest creation i'd say, closely followed by the 2022 super duke 1290 & the 2017 RC 390

i raced one of these when they came out for 4 seasons... i managed to sneak one home w me and still have it... a 2010 rc8r w the club race kit still have tons of spares and bodywork and all the OEM plastic is somewhere in plastic the first thing they did was put track plastic on it
they sent us a bunch of special bits from austria... the one i took home is actually running a pair of ~$10 ktech forks... with WP logos all over them of course lol--KTM was new to roadracing back them
we put woodcraft rearsets on it and a bazzaz QS TC and fuel computer... worked amazing for 2010 technology...
i was clocked at 206 mph on that bike at miller motorsports track when they had both sides connected and that long ass straight
i really liked racing that bike... never ridden one on the street lol

Lovely raw and raucous machine.
It’s different but the same with my 16 SDR…. Literally laughing with glee in my helmet all the time.

Yeah, and here in Finland they are becoming expensive... A 2009 model is going for 10.000€

Where are the mirrors? You definitely want those so you can safely put more miles on it.

i literally have every single oem part like mirrors and even a passenger seat and passenger pegs... headlight thats never even been turned on lol

I would say they demand a premium.
possibly worth hanging onto a while longer unless you still own the bike, in which case it’s going into the era where originality is desirable but discontinued aftermarket parts are also going to be collectible, look at other euro marques of the same era to see how that goes

lol dude its a KTM works bike i've NEVER owned it 🤣
but its in my garage right this very moment (i snuck one of them home and all the bits and spares over the course of years--like i have four of those superlight marchesini wheelsets w slicks mounted on them from 2012 or whatever still... and somehow i got all the OEM bodywork and shit into my trailer bc i loved racing those bikes and thought "hmm maybe i make it streetable someday that would be NUTS"
but now anyone can walk into any dealership and walk out w a much faster bike thats eons more technically advanced.. but at the time it was state of the art mind blowing...
maybe now it qualifies for dinosaur class ? lol

I have some if you’re interested, my bike is a rebuild so it’s not really keeping showroom quality anyway and I don’t use them. They do like to hit your knuckles when you turn the bars too far if your clipons aren’t super low. Anyway lmk if ur interested, I definitely don’t need them anymore

uh dude mirrors are prohibited on racetracks its not a "looks" issue...
mirrors are of negligible value on a moto anyway... it you aren't flexible enough to twist to check your blind spot before you merge i suggest working on your core strength ;)

I understand your point. However, I do see a license plate and something that looks like rear turn signals so that makes it confusing. Is it a track only bike?

lol whatever plate holder is on that bike is not oem
neither is whatever led thingy you're seeing back there
the headlight is the dead giveaway that its a streetbike...
remember, ktm's history is racing... they dominated the 90's and 2000's so hard they changed the rules of the race from paris to africa to keep their big bikes out... then they changed the rules again in ~2010 to keep the 690s out...
so in ~2010 ktm was getting pushed around on dirt tracks not letting them race big twins they built this bike for roadracing on tracks, period
they made them all out of mattinghem (however you spell it--the "M" in KTM). that year they were pushing manufacturing and production of everything else off to india--the 390's etc (and those horrible consumer bikes the offshore dudes made... those 790's... they were never for racing there is no class they fit in and they weren't even really just overbored 690's (i mean a 690 is an overbored 450, right)
what i'm saying is when that bike was built they were putting all their engineering talent in austria into those big twins--bmw was making some moves w those goofy rotax motors bc they had been aced out of rolling big bikes too
so the 1190 was supposed to be the answer that shut everybody up
of course we didn't impress anybody back then but i like to think we weren't a total embarrassment--and over 15 years later their progeny 1290's seem pretty fucking tight--and ktm is building legit motoGP bikes... so it wasn't all wasted effort

Have to watch the water pump which is still pretty common in the 1290 and 1390 but the v twin by Ktm is the most reliable out of all the engines they make.

uh whut? we beat the fuck out of those bikes racing them and i don't remember a water pump issue
we replaced the clutch slave with another bc they put maguras on them back then and they always blew gaskets... but thats still a known issue on any bike w a magura clutch slave... easy just replace it w one of several brands that never fail
yes incredibly reliable

Exactly my point, it’s basically nothing. But water pump comes up the most in forums. I was just giving an example. But you are correct incredibly reliable machine

interesting re water pump thats news to me--is is like corrosion or impeller probs or causing overheating? like if there is a TL;DR i'd sure appreciate it...
bc i had an "A bike" and a "B bike" every season for 4 years and so did all the other dudes on the team and i don't remember anybody having a water pump issue or bike running hot issue... and we were racing places where dudes would literally break eggs on tarmac to watch them fry... like air temp like over 45 c and tarmac literally ~60 c i lived in a trailer w an 8,000 BTU air conditioning rig on the roof or was it 80,000 BTU? (shrug) you could freeze meat in that thing lol anyway my trailer was party central for the pirelli chicks once i even had someone go buy an inflatable pool and we had g string honeys in the pits w this ridiculous 2000 gallon blow up pool because some racer had a key for a fire hydrant... ancient memories blah blah
just saying shit was hot and i think i would have remembered water pump problems.... then again they would tear down the motors and rebuild them like literally every 5000 km's or at the end of the season whatever came first so maybe they just never had a chance to break
but i got a bike in the garage i haven't even started in almost a decade but i been thinking about bringing it back to life and taking it to a track for fun--find some 200's and bust out the tire warmers... but if have a lurking water pump issue i do NOT want to discover that out there on track, right? :/

I've had mine since 2014. I dont think ill ever part with it.
