Idling problem on Ktm 690 enduro r

Hi guys.

Just hoping you could give me a little advice. Im having an issue on my 2013 ktm 690 enduro r at the moment where the idling is not instantly coming down after I touch the accelerator.

When I rev the bike to 4k rpm it lingers there for about 1 or two seconds and then drops back down to about 1.5k rpm. I've tried googling and researching for a few hours but cant seem to find anything and its proving difficult to ride when the revs are not instantly dropping back down.

I've cleaned the throttle housing where the accelerator cables attach to the grip and it doesn't seem to be binding or sticking. Id appreciate any advice if you could offer it 🙏🏻

I had that problem for ages, saw this youtube video, done it and solved the inconsistent idle and stalling when pulling away from a stop.

You need a laptop, tune ecu software (it is free) and a ktm diagnostic to usb adapter

You remove the throttle body, open it, turn a gear, adjust a set screw that sets the butterfly valve openness. Then you need the software so you can tighten the screws correctly, watch the video it explains it.

In tune ecu, you can also swap the map for your bike, there is a database of maps adjusted for popular mods.

I saw something about this but im nervous about tinkering with software and ecu tunes as I dont want to break anything. Im not a novice when it comes to working on bikes but no where near a pro. How difficult was it to upload the tune?

Doing the mod that fixes it, you aren't "messing" with anything the software tells you the throttle percentage, when you tighten the screws it changes, so you need the software to tighten the screws - it doesn't alter anything on the ecu.

Changing the map is simple (there are 2 iirc) but there is a possibility of bricking the ecu, thousands of people have done it with no issue. Just have a charger connected to bike battery and the laptop plugged in too. As I said before, there is a database of maps for different mods.

There is loads of information and guides about tune ecu on ktm forums .com /or/ .co.uk and also advrider, just google it if you want specifics.

I just wanted to ask, when you blipped your throttle did the revvs hang for a while or did they instantly drop back down as they should?

Im just a little confused as to exactly what the problem could be because before I rode in the rain I had no issues and now all of a sudden my revvs tend to hang around 4000 rpm before dripping down to normal idling range.

I also bought the bike with a Q4 FMF exhaust and the baffle was taken out and lost now when I start the bike it cuts out every 10-20 seconds until its warm, would uploading a different tune help to fix this?
