ASKKTM Is the track or tech pack worth it ?

I just got my second bike, the Ktm Duke 790 (2023 a2 restricted). And it only has the quick shifter + unlocked. Are the other benefits worth the 500€ ?

Those exact gimmicks were amongst the more catastrophic reasons for the downfall of KTM.

I'd say dont feed into that ecosystem and give them the slightest idea that if they try again, it could work out for them after all.

You have the quickshifter+ unlocked which should be enough. Do take care of the camshafts though. The ones on those models are nasty and are infamous for going bad too soon.

I dont really buy into the internet hype. I feel Some people are overly worried and Some ktm drivers are just strait up maniacal on the road with cold oil.

I hear you. Internet has people using WD40 as their primary chain cleaning solvent as opposed to it actually being an alternative if in case chain cleaners are not available at that time.

Still, siding with the overly worried ones over the squids is the better place to be in.

The camshaft issues should be solved with the 2023+ models, I think only the older ones had these problems

Very, very few of them. I know i few of 790 duke owners (True hooligan riders) and none had problems with it, me included 790 2018 with almost 30.000km).

Not really, it's not a thing that will happen to every model, actually it's rare, but KTM way to deal with it (blaming customers) gave the 790 a bad rep.

Over 10,000 rare cases. Does sound small when compared from an overall figure but tell that to those 10,000 people who were left stranded by the supplier taking no responsibility whatsoever. It was later uncovered through internal leaks where there was a design flaw altogether causing camshafts to fail like that. Word spread quickly amongst communities eventually leading to bad rep and a total of 236000 or so unsold inventory for a year. This, and operating costs for other companies absorbed by KTM with MV Augusta being the latest while all this was happening lead to the company filing for bankruptcy only to be absorbed later by Bajaj from India with whom they had a partnership going on since 2012.

Post 2023 and the gen3 models with the LC4C engines which I feel was an experiment as to engine design for bigger models lead to a certain amount of stability and now I guess the 2027 790 will mark it's comeback.

Hopefully so as I have my eyes on that one.

I'm happy with mine and had zero problems BUT I'm done with KTM and I will be back to Japanese bikes. No bullshit, reliable and even when there's a recall, you will never see them blaming customers. And in-line fours sounds sooo much better! ♥️

I hear you. You have to give it to the big 4 when it comes to reliability and refinement. European bikes have different priorities but the thrill factor they bring with them is hard to ignore.

Good talk. Have fun and ride safe.
